Thanks again, Johan! Do your documents say Oberstleutnant? He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on 24 December 1888 ... unless I got something wrong.

Here is a clip from the Danish State Calendar 1890. It says Oberstlieutnant, but perhaps they updated his rank in the state calendar when he got promoted?

That's too bad, Herman, I was hoping for a date. NN2 can be seen for the first time in the Rangliste 1893, so maybe 1891 or 1892.

Then it is 1892, the year this order was instituted.
