Megan Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 Do you think each of the 'blue light' emergency services should have their own medal or would it be better to have a single award for emergency service workers killed or injured in the line of duty? 1

This award is proposed for Police Officers injured and discharged, I would have hoped it is in addition to existing awards for death or injury because I think this doesn’t cover enough on its own but it appears to me there are aren’t existing awards to cover either. There is an ongoing campaign, started by a murdered WPC’s Father, with good support, for a medal to recognise his daughter’s sacrifice and that of others. There must be others surely but on the Gov Home office site there are just 3 awards listed, one for each service. Criteria for each. My outsiders opinion (never served) has long been that service in the UK Armed Forces is massively unappreciated/unrecognised generally & also unrewarded medal wise. The Elizabeth Cross being introduced in 2009 was at least something. I now see the emergency services are largely unrecognised also. In a time where the awards list is mostly made up of pop stars and other trendy recipients it’s time that King & Govt recognised real service to this Nation. - The real service & real sacrifice of all who sign their lives over to the armed forces for however long & in whatever role. All pay a price. - The real service & risks involved in the daily work of the emergency services. cheers tony 🍻 ps I didn’t expect to send me off on a rant 😊 2
Megan Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 Rant away, dear heart. Our uniformed services do not get as much recognition as they should. 1

bigjarofwasps Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 Tom Curry’s latest book is now available. It focuses around the Campaign for Medal Recognition for Injured UK Police Officers https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CSWZLLBJ?fbclid=IwAR0nNP9bQd_RKEOcJtyrYPgPqBdpHGrZI68eAgnthE7E43hUUiiXYIRH9Jk_aem_AUsiSEH7OnLe5Rx6k-_WAS4ICqe3IXfwJapifKQoMPgDLLEjJTTjmZV2toz7vp5fSH8
bigjarofwasps Posted May 12 Author Posted May 12 Article in today’s Sunday Express, which might be of interest? The campaign is for the award of a medal to officers injured in the line of duty and as a result have to be medically retired. In the vast amount of cases thus not qualifying for their LSGC and having no metallic recognition for their service.
bigjarofwasps Posted November 9 Author Posted November 9 The first recipients of an award for emergency service workers who die in the line of duty have been announced. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ce31jgjel81o?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR0Oq8KspI84Vnj5m6cLbhn3DRNIxRgPwRm9cEJ2l2oAZHOUrHPB0DXs1KQ_aem_kdOP59B3p_aVzi-YFoVTsg 1
Megan Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Good and appropriate that King Charles III will be presenting the first batch personally. 2
Megan Posted December 10 Posted December 10 And (finally) today's the day that the first Elizabeth Emblems will be presented to next of kin by King Charles at Windsor Castle... 1
