Chris Boonzaier Posted May 15, 2006 Author Posted May 15, 2006 The award document for the belgian C.d.G....Interesting how they are awarded and how it says "Does not entitle to the french C.d.G.
Chris Boonzaier Posted May 15, 2006 Author Posted May 15, 2006 The official citation for his Legion d'H. published in 1918...
Hendrik Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 The official citation for his Legion d'H. published in 1918...Great set of documents, Chris ! And with a very nice citation to boot : I'd say the citation entitled him to two palms and two bronze stars on his French Croix de Guerre. The Belgian document shows his entitlement to a batch lot of CdG that was sent to France, never seen such a document before - Great stuff and thanks for sharing it !!!Cheers,Hendrik
Chris Boonzaier Posted October 31, 2006 Author Posted October 31, 2006 Am hijacking this thread to continue on with CdG award documents, I just recieved this one today, regimental level, for fighting during the offensive in Picardy, August 1918. He seems to have been a "Volunteer for all dangerous missions" and fought very well in the attacks on the 9th, 10th and 16th of August 1918.
Hendrik Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Nice one Chris ! You have a knack for unearthing those fine documents - keep at it ! Cheers, Hendrik
Chris Boonzaier Posted November 5, 2006 Author Posted November 5, 2006 Here is another one, during the July 1918 offensive he and his 2 machine guns fired 20 000 rounds, then with his pistol in his hande he gathered up the remains of other sections and counter attacked...
ErikMuller Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 A post war photo...What?s that badge he?s wearing under his miniatures?
Chris Boonzaier Posted November 6, 2006 Author Posted November 6, 2006 What?s that badge he?s wearing under his miniatures? That is a good question... I was hoping someone would whip out an answer....
Chris Boonzaier Posted November 7, 2006 Author Posted November 7, 2006 Guys.... am i the only one that has any french docs !?!?!?!?!!?
Tony Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Yep, it appears you've cornered the market.I've seen some very nice French and Belgian docs at flea markets and Bourses aux armes or whatever you call them but unfortunately I can't read French. If the Belgian ones I've seen were in Flemish, I might have a chance of understanding them. Tony
ErikMuller Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Yesterday I got a booklet for the pension of a M?daille Militaire-winner. I will post the cover, the first two pages and a page with coupons here:
ErikMuller Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 And being finished posting I suddenly realise, that this is a croix-de-guerre topic and not the M?daille Militaire topic. Sorry! Back on topic:Unknown French soldier with C-d-G, wound ribbon and fourragere:
ErikMuller Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Unknown French soldiers, number one with a MM and C-d-G with palm, the other one with a C-d-G with star:
Hendrik Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 ...booklet for the pension of a M?daille Militaire-winner... Nice booklet, Eric ! I notice the gent in the picture served with the "Republican Guards" ... the guys that stand guard at the Senate and President's palace in Paris if I'm not mistaken. Cheers, Hendrik
