Beau Newman Posted February 7 Posted February 7 I picked up a couple of really nice lots from a recent online auction that had several pieces that were in the 1954 Mehl sale of the King Farouk Collection. The first is a REO 1st Class Cross (no sash unfortunately) and Breast Star. The Cross is marked "W" on the bottom edge. The Star is unmarked: The second is a Black Eagle Breast Star. It has quite a bit of loss to the orange/red enamel behind the eagle and the pin is rotated 180 degrees from the normal orientation. The only marking is a script number on the backplate: 3
VtwinVince Posted February 7 Posted February 7 Holy cow, now these are worth a second look. I had no idea old Farouk was a collector. I have a cut down piece from a sash which would fit your RAO set.
Beau Newman Posted February 7 Author Posted February 7 Farouk was a huge collector. He had a world class coin collection, including some unique or nearly unique pieces that sell now in the 7 figure range.
Marcon1 Posted February 8 Posted February 8 If you have a lot of money (as a king of Egypt would have) you can buy a lot of nice and rare things. Which is why I'm still trying to win the jackpot in the Dutch State Lottery, but so fare no luck 😞 marcon1. 1
