Here's a piece from our local museum collection... a North Dakota National Guard 6 Year Faithful Service medal in it's original box.

Thanks. This one is quite old... not sure what they've got nowadays. I'm sure it's comparable to all the other states. I'm assuming the one I posted is probably from the turn of the century up through the 20's/30's or thereabouts.

Was actually hoping someone on here might know more. It's waaaaaaay outside of my fields of interest.

This design predates the current state Long Service Medal, which was authorizied in 1905. As with so many state awards, however, there is little documentary history for these. Perhaps the Adjutant General's reports for the 1880-90s would turn up references to the establishment of this badge.

If nothing else, it represents the day when medals were made by real manufacturers, and not some clip-art jocky in Lower Slobovia.

Really appreciate the info. Again it's probably more than they've ever known about it other than who it was originally awarded to.

Next time I go over I'm going to try to remember to take my loop so I can read that makers mark. We searched all over and could not find a magnifying glass and I'd forgotten to take the loop. My poor eyes are not what they used to be... and to be honest they never really were. And to think, I was going to take up the additional sideline of watchmaking along with my collecting of pocket watches. Don't think they're much of a chance of that happening now. Just can't see the details anymore.

I'll pop on more info as I can find out. There's a meeting there this coming Tuesday and barring major disaster I'm planning to go. Just depends on how many people show up and how late they'll all be there. I'm hoping at some point to be getting a key and if so then I'll be able to just go over whenever I need to.
