Mike K Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Hi,Would anyone have any info on a "Guther" (NOT Gunther) who may have worn the Schaumburg-Lippe Kreuz fur Treue Dienste STECKKREUZ? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks & RegardsMike
Guest Rick Research Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Those were only awarded to royalty. No Prince/Duke with any name that could be read as that (? scratched on the back or ???) got one. I've got that fragment of the MISERABLE CfLSiW rolls.

Guest Rick Research Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Exactly like the ribboned ones, only pinback.(Used to be in my collection, sigh)
ccj Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 STECKKREUZI have a photo and a bit of history around A Landsturm or Landwher NCO who won the Schaumburg-Lippe Kruez STECKKREUZ. This is odd as I had forgotten the name of the award and how rare they were. I man I befriended in Germany some years ago had many photos and a bio on this NCO from interviews with his relatives. I can't remember the man's name, the NCO's name, or the e-mail address. I start searching for it this week.
ccj Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 No he didn't.Well, I could be wrong but if I find the photo and it shows the badge it question I want your best ribbon bar!!!
Guest Rick Research Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 The pinback was awarded only to ROYALS.

Guest Rick Research Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Here is the complete list of recipients, MUCH annotated from the miserable original Roll. I am still adding death dates-- the Online Gotha refuses to completely download for me any more, so have been stymied on the more obscure recipients. Since there is no notation whatsoever next to all but 3 of the names, there is very often no way to tell WHICH nonentity-Princeling among several with that Rufname among their string of baptismal names was actually intended. Schaumburg-Lippe Kreuz f?r Treue Dienste: Steckkreuze "@" = WHO ??? The number is their running entry on the Roll, "?" my notation of AUSTRIAN recipients, "B" Bulgarian, "T" Turkish, "M" = Naval recipient, ""W" = W?rttemberg recipient, and "See SLH1" indicates that these people ALSO received Schaumburg Honor Crosses 1st Class before or during the war (part of cross referencing ALL awards from the same state in each Roll as it will be published, in German. Everything in (brackets) has been ADDED by me and is NOT on the original roll. The ONLY descriptive entries for any recipient are in bold. ccj Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I guess I'm wrong I can't find the bio on this man but he started ended the war as a LtdR or L...Hansmeier
ccj Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 What's this wartime officer wearing? I sure wish I could find his bio. He had done something special that gained him recognition from the Prince. I know the one on his bar is the Lippe kreuz but I guess I may be wrong about the other.
Guest Rick Research Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 EXTREMELY difficult to say from such small fuzzy scans. The "normal" ribboned Schaumburg cross and what appears to be the Lippe-Detmold War Cross for Heroic Deeds between his EK1 and Wound Badge.NOT a pinback Schaumburg-Lippe Cross for Loyal Service in War (for royals ONLY).

I'll do some research to let ya know...
Mike K Posted January 14, 2008 Author Posted January 14, 2008 Hmmm, looking again, was there a unit along the lines of 1. GFAR Guther ?RegardsMike

David Gregory Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Here's a scan;RegardsMikeMike,Could you post a scan of the backs and pin/catch systems, please?I would also be interested in seeing a close-up of the right angles where the arms meet. Are they drilled or cut in any way? Thanks in advance,David
Mike K Posted January 22, 2008 Author Posted January 22, 2008 Hi David,Bad timing! I'm away from home until Mid Feb, so won't be able to post all the requested pics or properly answer the other questions until then.Regarding the pinback, from memory, the quality of construction and finish was very good. A nicely worn fire-gilt finish over a tombak-like basemetal. No signs of casting what-so-ever imo. Some indications of fine filing on the sides of the cross arms - I don't recall the joins of the arms. The hardware is interesting and probably more in line with late teens/early 20s (Freikorps period) - small block hinge, needle pin and small flatwire "C" catch. I've seen similar on Prussian EK1s, Schlesien Adler, Baltic Crosses and some immediate post-war veterans association pin-back awards. The screwback is a Meybauer - the X-plate and DRGM screwdisk weren't included in the scan.RegardsMike
Guest Darrell Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Mike, could that be "Luther" instead of Guther?
Mike K Posted January 22, 2008 Author Posted January 22, 2008 Hi Darrell,Possible, but there appear to be top (horizontal) strokes present, which made it look more like a G to me.RegardsMike
Mike K Posted February 22, 2008 Author Posted February 22, 2008 For David, a pic of the inner arm join as requested. No indications of having been drilled. Maybe some indications of very very fine filing.RegardsMike
