Ed_Haynes Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 (edited) Hi Paul, Among the best places to start -- Russian or no Russian -- is Yuri Yashnev's:http://www.netdialogue.com/yy/Europe/Romania/SRR/SRR.htmOr, for ribbons, Lukasz Gaszewski's:http://www.medals.lava.pl/ro/ro2.htmMegan Robertson's site has, unfortunately, not much yet:http://www.medals.org.uk/romania/romania.htm(Someone -- ??? -- needs to feed it.)Ed Edited October 6, 2005 by Ed_Haynes

Paul R Posted October 6, 2005 Author Posted October 6, 2005 next two...It seems as if a device is missing from the front of the white one...
Paul R Posted October 6, 2005 Author Posted October 6, 2005 Ed! That is an awesome website! Thank you... All but one were listed! I have saved it to my favorites!Best regardsPaul
Guest Rick Research Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 #1 on the left is the 1944-45 War Medal, I think, from when they pulled an "Italy" and changed sides. "RPR" as the Republic's initials was replaced in 1965 by "RSR" from what I can tell.#4 on the left is the "Order of 23rd August 1944." Is that gold or silver? Igor Moiseyev has a silver one (1967-89) for $40#6 on the left is the Medal for Outstanding Service to the State, 1965-89. Igor has one for $35-- no ribbon device, must just be snags.#6 on the right with the strange device is 30th anniversary of Vivictory 1975, $17 per Igor#10 on the left is 1962 Contributions to Collectivation of Agriculture, $22#10 on the right is Military Merit Medal 1st Class, $15from ones currently on offer.
Paul R Posted October 6, 2005 Author Posted October 6, 2005 Thank you Rick! I did not know that Igor was selling these as well. He has really started to branch out a bit!The one I like the first is the first one(the one later replaced by the RSR). That is the only one I could not find in the reference given by Ed. Is it pretty rare?I am suprised that these are worth as much as stated! II need to make up a display box for them.Paul
Ed_Haynes Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 (edited) Paul: I hope you don't mind us adding onto your fine thread. (I always feel uncomfortable doing this.) But we know so little about most Warsaw Pact etc. awards that we need to pool our individual ignorance to produce collective knowledge.(Igor, by the way, seems to sell those things which he can sell, even Nazi stuff.)Order of Labor, 1st class, 1965-89 variety, "RSR" / Odinul Muncii, 1st class, 1965-89 variety, "RSR"Founded by the decree of No. 16 of 1948 to three degrees. This "RSR" variety awarded 1965-89.(What follows is reflecting my interest in labor awards of the "socialist world".) Edited October 7, 2005 by Ed_Haynes
Ed_Haynes Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 Order of Labor, 3rd class, 1948-65 variety, "RPR" / Ordinul Muncii, 3rd class, 1948-65 variety, "RPR"

Paul R Posted October 7, 2005 Author Posted October 7, 2005 Heck no I dont mind! Thank you for your additions! Those orders are beautiful!!
Guest Rick Research Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Did Rumanian regulations replace lower grades of the same Order or did they go overboard and wear everything at the same time? Are there ribbons for all these stars when they were not worn?I have never seen or handled Rumanian medals, but some of these look like the sort of grayish ?zink used in wartime Hungarian awards-- is that in fact what some of these "gray" ones are made out of?
Ed_Haynes Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 I know that ribbons were awarded with the Labor Orders (yellow with red edges and one, two, or three red stripes, depending on class). I have handled, but do not have in my custody, some nice cased sets. They are unnumbered, so their joy is limited. I believe I have seen photos of recipients wearing several labor orders, so the usual patterns seem to hold here.
Eric Schena Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Rick: I've only really seen the RPR period medals (that is, pre Ceaucescu/1965), but the materials used I have noticed have been real silver, nickel silver, brass, and bronze. The later ones seem to be much more gaudy so they may have used "staybright" alloys and the like. If I may also post some from my meagre collection of RPR decorations, this is the Order of the Star - first pattern, which was made between 1948 and 1964. It came in 5 classes, the first two classes were breast stars (gold and silver), the lower three on ribbons like this one (in gold, silver and bronze).
Eric Schena Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Here's the Order of the Star after it was completely redesigned in 1964. On the left is the 4th class and on the right is the 5th class and are made of real silver. The 1st through 3rd classes share the same basic design but with additions such as gilding and brilliants. These two are from the RPR period between 1964 and 1965.
