Bob Hunter Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 I came across this ribbon bar at a show today. The owner was asking if it might be traceble and I told him I would pass the pictures on for evaluation. There are things about this bar that arouse my suspicions...but then I'm a suspicious type. What say you gents?
Bob Hunter Posted October 23, 2005 Author Posted October 23, 2005 (edited) and here is the reverse. Copper colored backing pin and catch. Stitching, cloth and the fact no ribbon material is visible on the reverse edges sets off bells and whistles... Edited October 23, 2005 by Bob Hunter
Christian L Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 i definately don't like the catch and the huge amount of devices.the red eagle order crown coming to my mind was enameld - and not an ordinary crown like herethe color of the long service eagles is also a bit i don't like it.christian
webr55 Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Aaargghhhh!!! Red Eagle 3rd with bow and crown to a pre-1914 Oberst!! Must have been 80++ in WW2!
Christian L Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 forgot to say, that you should have a close look at the wreath to the long service medal - such a "nice" one
Guest Rick Research Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Exactemundo, my bruddas! I stopped as soon as I saw the first scan for the below:[attachmentid=13838]yes it IS traceable:To Ohio in the 1990s. This is CLASSIC Ohio Parts Fraud, all hand snipped brass backing, catch, pin, and absolutely idiotic over the top FAKE devices.A ribbon bar is the tale of the wearers career.THIS volume is "fiction."[attachmentid=13840]
Bob Hunter Posted October 23, 2005 Author Posted October 23, 2005 Best I could do on the wreath without losing resolution.
Guest Brian von Etzel Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Awesome, this guy must have started in Hollywood making bars for the 'Krauts' in all the 50's and 60's WWII movies.
Stogieman Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 The only good thing you can say about the guy is he was pretty consistent in what he did/made. They're pretty easy to spot if you know what to look for. When he started, he used primarily original devices and the prices were low enough that they were worth grabbing for parts.... not anymore though. These bogus bars command ever higher prices by wishful thinkers........
