    1. Bits dug up. A flooded trench next to the crater
    2. Rick, I've seen quite a few pictures of men found like that, he looks as though he's sleeping, wonder how he died. Some shells from the area.
    3. Got to pick my son up from swimming, feed him and his brother, get them to bed then have a shower so will post more pics later. Tony
    4. The following pictures are from inside Hooge Crater museum.
    5. A poor bugger found during the excavation work, a RWF killed on or before the 31.7.17 (battle of Pilkem Ridge). His tag was illegible.
    6. I'll put my photos from my weekend in Ypres in this forum, if it's the wrong place please move the thread elsewhere. Starting off with Yorkshire Trench which was north of Ypres (about 4km) near Boesinge just to the east of the canal. The trench was excavated and preserved in about 2001 prior to the industrial estate being built. There are also photos in the following two links: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=5588&st=0entry54427 http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=5586...t=0entry54422
    7. Never mind. Do you have version 1 or 2 of SDGW?
    8. That's strange, he's on the CWGC. Do you think they forgot all about him? Tony
    9. Chris, Can I trouble you again for a look up please? M1-6308 Private NEAL, RALPH ASC 50th Aux. Bus Coy. Age: 33 Died: 24/12/1918 Son of William and Emily Neal; husband of Mary Margaret Neal, of 36, Mortimer Rd., Hackney, London. Cheers Tony
    10. Michael, I believe the medal office stopped issuing Great War medals about 10 years ago but give it a go anyway. Tony
    11. Just read the bit about the badge on the link again, they did have a number on the reverse. Tony
    12. Hello Chet, I think they are great groups. Have a look at this for the War Service Badge http://www.vac-acc.gc.ca/remembers/sub.cfm...ainmenu/group08 He may have just waited a long time before receiving his one, shame it's not there. I don't know if the Canadian "A" War Service Badge was numbered to each recipient as the Silver War Badge was to all sick and wounded invalided out. Tony
    13. Thanks Chip! What might the 247 be, a catalogue number from a dealer? They have a bit of damage to the red material and are filled with what looks like wood straw, they also have a strip of steel (which hasn't rusted) keeping them nice and stiff. Tony
    14. Glenn and Mike, Thanks very much for the fast answers. Glenn really knows his stuff so I think you can count yourself as one of the experts Mike, or at least well on the way. Tony
    15. Hello, I?ve had these epaulettes for quite a while but have never really known anything about them. I always assumed the blue set was for a doctor and the other for an infantryman, both holding the rank of Captain. Does anyone know what sort of uniform they would have been worn on (mess dress, fighting gear etc.), in which period they were used and if German or Austrian? Thanks Tony
    16. Can't read much of it but here goes. Born 15.11.28 in ?????? Religion roman catholic? Profession Reichsbahn something Pistol - Walther The unit is AE u AA (Artillery Ersatz und Ausbildungsabteilung) stationed at present in Cold?????? That's about all I can read, some of which may be corrected later. Tony
    17. Hello Doug, I can't make out much but it looks like Siegfried was in the artillery. The pink piece of paper has what appears to be the names of towns in the Dresden area e.G. Pirna (SE of Dresden) and Meissen (NW of Dresden). Maybe he was taking notes of where people were going to or coming from. The times is also noted. One of the words looks like V?geln to me but I'm quite sure he didn't have time for that. It's probably another town nearby. I'm sure some of the better German readers will be able to help you more. Tony
    18. Had the chance of buying one with the chockies years ago but thought the little old dear in the antique shop was having a laugh when she told me the price. There was only a small chunk of chocolate there and some straw but don't know if the straw was original. Mind you, it's a lovely tin though Ralph. Chris, every time I see one of those tins I shed a tear for those poor Boers. Honest mate and no mistake. Tony
    19. Don, You might find this site interesting http://www.reservistenkrug.de/ It's in German but there are lots of photos and 6 pages of repros. He also has a 'for sale' page but I've never had any contact with him so can't make any comments. Tony
    20. I'm interested as I know nothing about the Balkan front. Tony
    21. Great pics Theodor! Do you find them often in far far away? If you have more please show them. Photos of German or Brit POWs seem to be hard to find, I only have a few which are all from the western front. Tony
