    1. Just acquired this photograph The back reads: In remembrance of my 24th Birthday I send my photograph. Your son and brother, Carl Bugler in the imperial Schutztruppe, German-South-West-Africa
    2. Hi Captain; Yes, there were different makers of the colonial medal and the medals differ slightly in appearance. Having said that, the second one you are showing is a copy and not an original medal. I'm not too keen on the first one either (perhaps just a poor picture)
    3. Robin, I will try to send you a pm - if not received please pm me Hardy
    4. Here we go: In the top left corner: "Baldiges Wiedersehen" (will see you soon) Nisch, August 30, 1916 My dear Ella Today I received the pretty card with your picture on it - it made me very happy and I thank you very much for it. I send you in return a picture of my comrades and me. It is not a good picture since there are no trained photographers here. Not sure when I get leave, hope soon. What is said at home in regard to my declaration of war, my dear Ella? (Was sagt man zu hause zur meiner Kriegserklärung, liebe Ella?) Thousand greetings and kisses from your Walter.
    5. Hi Thomas, I'm on the road - will translate when I'm back home later today
    6. Chris, could you post a larger can of the signature. All I can add is a(nother? - only have his first name)) Sebastian of the Alpenkorps wearing an EK2
    7. The word on the stamp looks like; ... Kommando 1. Schiffsstammabteilung The sender is: Matrose Hans Rottner in Kiel from 3./1-S-St-A = 3. Kompanie, 1. Schiffsstammabteilung. The letter is addressed to his father, Schütze Heinz Rottner in Emmerich serving with Landesschützen-Ersatz-Batl (6). He writes that he wishes a good Sunday - that he is well and hopes the same for his father.
    8. Either regimental depot inventory number of item (Kammer-Nummer) or serial number (Stammrollen-Nummer) of issued idividual within unit.
    9. Hello, the PLM you are showing is a poor copy - the value is around 30 to 40 Euro.
    10. Are there any labels inside? If the tunic has pockets in the inside of the tails, check for labels there too. It appears to be a 19th century Bediensteten Livree for perhaps a Kutscher (Servant tunic for a coach driver). It also could be Austrian in origin.
    11. Seitengewehr M/71 See here: http://www.waffensammler-kuratorium.de/sgm71/sgm71ge.html
    12. Heinrich Tiedermann was a flutist in IR15 - he served active for 18 years. (What is the first award on his medal-bar?)
    13. Red eagle, long service, China medal with 2 battle clasps, Prussian 1897 Centenary Medal, Baden Zaehringer Lion KC without swords 3rd class, then the two British medals
    14. I have a Major Credner (Major since Jan. 27, 1908) commanding the 1st Battalion of Infantry Regiment 32 in 1909. but that must be a different Credner. Kolonial-Handels-Adressbuch 1909 Behörden in Kiautschou. III. Seebataillon. Kommandeur: Major Credner. Kompagniechefs: Hauptleute: Lieber, v. Schoeler, Schering, Hink, Graf v. Brockdorff.
    15. ... more like, sent back home - I'm sure you are familiar with the abbreviation: "RTM" quote: "He implored his father to use his royal connections to obtain an officer candidate position for him. His parents eventually gave in, allowing him to train (upon graduation from secondary school in 1918) with the 11th Bavarian Regiment. Since he was not athletic, he struggled throughout his military training."
    16. Correct, if a service term was cut short to 10 days by wounding, death, legit illness or the end of the war. For a person that, after some time in training, was found to be utterly unfit for military service, the ten day rule did not apply.
    17. I think as well, it is him - add to Ulstermann's observations the fact that the unit is correct. During 1918 Himmler was briefly in training with the Bavarian Regiment Nr.11 but never made it to the front. For the HK with or without swords, one had to have at least some menial involvement in the war. Just dressing up some sickly little coward in Bavaria would be more then stretching the requirements for this award.
    18. If you are talking about a certain Cryptorchid - he was Infantry.
    19. Not often do you see a junior Artillery NCO wearing an Iron Cross 1st class Unteroffizier from 1. Westfälisches Feld-Artillerie-Regiment Nr.7 (1918)
