    1. Not sure, Chris - looks like they were dove gray originally - then perhaps oxidized over time to purple.

    4. Tough handwriting; Seinem l.(lieben) Bruder Carl i.f.Erg. (in freundlicher Erinnerung) St. Quentin, 12.XI. 14 Franz ?ediney (Mediney, Wediney, Nediney, Hediney) .
    5. Irish gunner is right... I thought you meant the other case. The little one is not an ammunition pouch
    6. I say map case, based on the folded over leather on the top-sides under the flap (to keep the content dry).
    7. Thomas, no indication of place, Edgar wrote this to his brother Bruno - at the bottom, the abbreviation looks like: S.l.b.w.A (no idea what that means)
Vogesen, November 28, 1916 Georg is writing back to his wife Käthe (he calls her endearing Käthchen) thanking her for the postcard he received from her and is writing this postcard back to her right away, so she doesn't have to wait too long for his response. He writes that the picture is of the Brigade-Sturmabteilung. Hoping that she is well and happy, he is sending her greetings and kisses.
    9. Agree with Jens, the name is Kummer A very nice and crisp portrait Hard to tell the cipher below the crown, perhaps a better scan would help
