    1. No, it would be a local peace officer - Perhaps for a short time he was under the command of the War Commissariat
    2. In the text you quoted - it reads: 1742 ... neue Amtsbezeichnung Commissarius und Amtmann In 1742 a new name was given to the office that Niemeyer held in 1815, it was called: "Commissarius und Amtmann" His superior in 1815 would have been the Amtshauptmann Carl Johann Georg von D?ring
    3. In 1821, carl Niemeyer lived in Meinersen a village about 35 km north of Braunschweig
    4. In 1811, Otto Carl Niemeyer a municipal clerk in Reinhausen (near Gleichen) married Luise von Uslar-Gleichen ( she was born in 1783 and died in 1845). He was probably born around 1780... that could be him

    13. The pips and number have been on this shoulder board for a long time. It is a very heavy, elaborately built shoulder board. As Glenn posted, there was no Oberst in charge of this Regiment throughout the war. My questions are: 1. Could this board be from a pre war FAR64 commander in the rank of an Oberst? (Was there one?) 2. Would have Wagner, after having left the Regiment, still worn his old boards as an Oberst?
    14. Thank you Christophe found my man wonder what happened to him after 1935 (but now I know where he lived)
    15. ? .. don't know - there are different ways of revealing writing under white-out, most involve chemicals and in most cases the intent is to find out was is written underneath without regard for the paper it was written on - chemicals will almost always stain the paper. ? ? In this case I believe the intent is to preserve the paper and (perhaps) restore it to it's original state. I would try to see how much of the name can be revealed by carefully scratching the white-out off, then leave it. ?
    16. Without using chemicals first, try gently scratching the white-out off the document with a scalpel.
    17. ... not too good - a few month later he was killed on the Eastern Front during an air-raid.
