    1. The shoulder strap does not look to be Garde Pionier though? There is a Cypher or number on it.
    2. Keck was beginning to end in the 6th company... fron the end of August 1914 till 1918
    3. I think I have it nailed. The only logical guy this could have been would have been Johann Keck. Keck served in the 6th Company from 1914 till the end of the war. He therefore qualified for the ring. He is however not on the Ring Roll. He should be there as he fulfills all criteria. A "Heck" is on the roll, but not listed in the 6th company. In fact, I cannot find any Leib regiment guy named Heck who qualified, and I went through all the Heck's in the Bavarian Army. The only stumbling block then is Keck is a Gefreiter... but seeing all the errors on the Roll, that is more of a questionmark than a "no!"
    4. It seems the Ring Roll is actually not worth a toss.... Leiber Heck 6. Kp. 11.01.1919 898 Leiber Meier Franz Xaver 6. Kp. 11.01.1919 899 Leiber Mittermeier 6. Kp. 11.01.1919 900 Leiber Schütz 6. Kp. 11.01.1919 901 Leiber Hörhule 6. Kp. 11.01.1919 902 Leiber Eder St. 6. Kp. 11.01.1919 903 Leiber Hihmann 6. Kp. 11.01.1919 904 Leiber Völk Johann I tried 3 of these names Heck, Hörhule and Hihmann... all supposedly in the 6th company... None of them is on the 6th Company roll... Hörhule and Hihmann dont exist at all in Acestry.com.... I am sure there was something similar to Heck, Hörhule and Hihmann in the 6th Company... one would need to see the ORIGINAL roll... I think the initial transcription into the Regimental History made errors which have been carried on into the Roll that is online.
    5. Hi, It is to "Heck" in the 6. Komp. I have finalised "the deal" so will be the proud owner in a day or so. Here is the problem... there is no "Heck" listed in the 6. Komp. There was one in the 5th company, (same battalion) who was wounded and invalided out after just 1 day at the front. Technically there was a paragraph which allowed these men to get the ring as well, but in the Leiber history it said they stuck by the 24 month rule. So... Heck remains a bit of a mstery man. There were a couple of Photos and a letter with it, but I assume added at a much later date as there is no logical connection to be seen.... If it was the 5th Company Heck he arrived at the regiment at a muuuuuch later date than the pics....
    6. Hi, Hi, Where did you see it? I did not know it was online already. Indeed... it was 898 or 868 depending on which side you look at it from. I wish it was 868, that would make my life easier, but seeing how another ring is stamped it is indeed 898
    7. Hi, Going through ancestry, seems to be quite a few guys from the Alpenkorps Rekrutendepot killed in action while still being part of the depot.
    8. Hi, I have something the present owner likes way more than this ring... just have to decide if I can bring myself to trade it ;-)
    9. Hi, They are numbered on the back, thats how I know this is the Ring that has been doing the rounds. There seems to be a problem finding this guys records, but if I get it I will really pull out all the stops to find him. I am superstitious and believe if I research it in detail... i probably wont get it in the end ;-)
    10. A few weeks ago I became aware that there was a Bavarian "Leiberring" on the market, but put it from my mind as I was sure I had no chance of getting it. But the world is small indeed, there were apparently 3-4 guys after it, and it has landed up in the hands of a good friend... I managed to get it to study... and hope to be able to work a trade soon...
    11. I would have thought thde article included all the boxes one had to tick to be one of the upper class of the era ? :-)

    14. Good tip, thanks. "25 years from first publication or first public performance if copyright has expired before such publication or performance, or if the work has never been protected in Germany and the author died more than 70 years before the first publication"
    15. Thanks, I guess the Sachsen-Anhalt connection would be the most logical thing then, small chance for the 2 bavarians. Best Chris
    16. Hi, how long would the copyright be on a privately published (1933) unit history? Would it be possible to do a reprint Thanks Chris

    21. After a recent visit to the Chemin des Dames I dug out the following... a Soldbuch with Meck. Schwerin cross 1st and 2nd class and EK2. Originally in RIR211, he was posted to the Sturmbataillon Nr. 7 in October 1917, and took part in the attack on the Chemin des dames in 1918...
