Possibly, but it was not an award... just a token gesture.... just as if Franck Ribéry gave me one of his Bayern München t_shirts... it would not make me part of the team. No officer there would have been authorised to make an award... much less to a foreigner ;-)

Hi, Wernitz cleared up a couple of the Mysteries that had been plaguing me for years and confirmed a theory or two that I had... but there are still some gaps I would like to fill.... including the following two.... When the German Army moved away from the fixed structure of the Armee Korps with "its" divisions, and divisions were instead transfered to the Armee Korps that needed them... there seems to be a change in the award process, at least for the EK2. In the early part of the war the awards seem to have been mostly made at Armee Korps level, then at about the time of the change, it seems to have been delegated to Divisional level. Maybe because of delays and it being difficult for a Corps to award medals to a division that had already moved on.... and for that reason the Divisional commanders took over the responsability? 2nd point... we know that after a couple of years in WW2 the order was given that a silver wound badge merited an EK2, for this reason Stellvertretender Commanders of a Wehrkreis could (almost) automatically award the EK2 to a soldier in a hospital in his Wehrkreis... In my groups I see a lot of soldiers wounded in the first couple of years of the war and invalided out... then awarded the EK in 1917... was this a precedent for the WW2 order, and was there an official order? I know, a needle in a haystack... but just on the off chance anyone knows......

OK, my thoughts on this... it is an unusual piece, and as such will raise questions right off the bat. I dont have a 100% pedigree, although the source is IMHO believable... but that and $8 will get you a cup of coffee. The piece is of very high quality, with the exception of the repair. It is possible that it has been repainted, but I am not sure, so I dont want to mess with it. On the places where the paint has flaked I THINK I see that under the surface it is rough, so the paint can grip I suppose. I suppose the "Why make a silver cross" is a legitimate question... but "why not?" is also legitimate... after all, we have enamle ones as well... 2 Thoughts cross my mind... Mabe some guys would have liked a pure silver cross? It represents a certain value... secondly... it is way easier for the maker... one stamping, then add the hook and needle... paint it, then finished..... as opposed to stamping rims, making core, having the core and rims soldered, then adding the furniture.... I would welcom any opinions and thoughts on this and will try for better photos tonight..

Notice the missing Umlaut!! And I guess a missing space "1.Sieger" instead of "1. Sieger" I guess it was engraved locally. Strangly enough won by a Navy guy... even though the army was there!!!

I missed the guys Marine Teller Mütze.. but I did get his 1st prize for a Ruckmarch in Esbjerg in 1944... Its a nice LARGE cocktail shaker (Guess they have lots of ice up there...) Not sure if I will trade it or use it!!!! I think this is Art Deko in style?

Apparently from this same officer.... it seems to be one piece solid silver!? Sadly the guy who had them thought they looked better cleaned.....
