    1. Hi, it is very possible that his EK was awarded in 1920, to late for the WW1 book, but entered in his RW one. Best Chris
    2. Hi, I have some masks, but have not really studied them. I read there are different models of the Rubber Mask, can anyone give me some info on these and maybe show the differences? Thanks Chris
    3. Some folks think I am crazy, but I have damaged most of my filters.... Many, many filters have rust, and in spite of the coal on the inside, they often rust through from the inside... With a couple of exceptions, I have emptied all my filters, for 2 reasons that come to mind.... 1) Many filters back then were used to filter poison Gas.... there may be a tiny chance that there is a residual danger left in them.. 2) More importantly... I prefer to ruin a filter by emptying it, and treating any rust spots from the inside and the outside, than to leave it 2untouched" and over the years see the rust eat it away. What do you guys think?
    4. Very nice indeed!! Not only are the contents very interesting, but the quality as well... !! Did not need a new suitcase every couple of months back then!!
    5. I have a couple of old US Rubber masks and 2 or 3 german ones. All of them were supple enough when I bought them that I could open them and stuff them with cloth that they more or less have the forn they would have on a face, and they are displayed that way. My thinking was, if you leave them in the tin (or bag in the US case) they will at some stage dry out to the point where you have a rusted filter on a crumblng mass of rubber... and will be of less interest than a mask that is open, but can no longer be squashed into a tin... Leather masks are so much easier to keep than the rubber ones :-(
    6. I am guessing a postwar award in the early 20s, therefor not entered in his WW1 book. I assume he must have had a Reichswehr Militärpass as well?
    7. Thanks, I hope to have it in a day or so, will post pics as soon as it is here.
    8. Some photos go for insane prices simply because of details normal people do not notice... and some go for insane prices because 2 idiots (one of them usually me) are bidding on them. I have seen a dealer put up a photo and get EUR80 for it, then put up a second one (had 2 of the same) and it went for EUR10, simply because Bidder 1 already had one (for EUR80), and Bidder 2 got it for what the reat of the market would pay. I have dug deep for some photos, gotten lucky on others... its always a question of who is bedding against you...
    9. Indeed! Very nice little group! Are there any well filled out battle pages in the WW1 book?
    10. My wifes Great Grandfather was an Infantry Officer in WW1, and a Luftwaffe Doctor in a Felddivision in WW2, He apparently got "brownie points" from the Divisional commander because at Dinner every evening he gave him tips on ground warfare... the Divisional commander had commanded JU52s before taking over a field Division ;-)
    11. It is possible that he was not a Flyer in WW1... My wifes greatgrandfather was Infantry in WW1 and Luftwaffe in the 1930s-1944.
    12. It is astonishing to see, that one mans retirement medal has a quality superior than most, if not all, military medals of all nations that have come out in the last 30 years or so.... Just what is it that they HAD back then that is so obviously lacking today (both in terms of design and production) ???
    13. Another cool thing is.... For the longest time I thought it was one of the Eastern Front dead end things.... little or no info to be found... then i discovered this book gathering dust on my shelves......
    14. Hi, I found a mention of the badge... I suppose there are different qualities for different ranks of the badge, this looks to be an Other Ranks one? Fotos to follow if the Mail does not loose it. best Chris
    15. Hi Paul, Thanks, I will hopefully have the pics by the ned of the week. What is a Suite of Nicholas II badge for? From what I can see, this was taken from a Russian Soldier in the Karpathans in 1916. Best Chris
    16. My first guess would have been something from the Vatican?
    17. A cool thing on his record... it is entered that he may wear the Edelweiss for the duration of the war....
    18. A couple of nice surprises with this doc... the first was finding out he served from May 1915 until October with the IV Schneeschubataillon, then a short stint in the Leib Regiment before being tansfered to the 3rd Bavarian Infantry regiment
    19. Ahhh... I think you are on the right track... must be from his personal Bodyguard :-) ;-)
