Other than the fact that a lowly private seldom if ever got an EK1..... what makes this doc so interesting? -

OK, I thought it was soooo ugly only one would use it... it was HB... Here is a thought.... Would foundry produced cores have totally died out? If they were producing, and had contracts, they would have kicked up a fuss if the ek makers suddenly said "we dont want any foundry cores anymore..." , Based on assumption, but I would think the foundries went on producing till the end, and due to the huge increase in the last two years, the stamped cores took over the slack, and began to way outnumber them at a certain point.... -
You would really share my joy if i told you what the buttons and straps cost... it was photographed so i had no idea what the buttons were... i just got the straps for a song... then when it arrived, and I saw the buttons... i woulda paid that for the buttons on their own almost... so the straps were actualyy for free ;-) Here are the buttons on the jacket. i was looking for the perfect set of buttons for ages!!!

Know a lot of blow up dolls do you? ;-) -
I am certainly not an expert on these, but I think this is Bavarian (The lions). it is of course possible that it was German made for another country, but I still think Bavarian. Hartkopf did indeed make them, along with Krupp, not sure who else. If hartkopf is the only stamp on it, I think it may be officers private purchase, as an issue one would have many more. If Wallis and Wallis offers GBP250... then thats what it must be worth ;-) (I think many of these auction houses are totally out of touch with reality when it comes to German items, the internet era has passed many by...)

Usually it is someone who had a buddy bid it up... then when the buddy wins, they contact you and offer it at your highest bid because the other guy "pulled out of the sale"... Although, to be fair... i was once the guy who pulled out.... There used to be an online medal auction site, and there was a QSA to the Pirtersburg light horse... i wanted to put a max bid of GBP270... and due to typo but GBP2700... i emailed the site 2-3 times telling them of my error... no response.... and i won it for about GBP1250... this was about 10 years ago. I explained to the seller, he was OK, i still owe him a beer.... he offerd it to the under bidder, but the under bidder did not believe it for a minute of course... so he had to relist it at a later date. -

Am I right in thinking that a foundry poured the cores and a stamping company made the frames? How many companys were big enough to be a foundry and a stamper? -

I think an interesting way of seeing who mixed what. Check the R frames (would be good to know), but it has a longer stamp on the ring....
