    1. This is a nice Camo from between Verdun and St Mihiel... I must chech the maker when i get home. What is cool about this, and maybe the same for all originals? The green paint underneath is in really good condition. ie. noone took a piece of crp and repainted it cammo... on the inside of the skirt it is a bit used, a number of names scratched off, just a MGK possible to read...
    2. Was dusting off some stuff today and dug these out... have a bunch more I need to get to... I like this nice simple one.... I assume early from the color, it is an ET64
    3. This is not waht i was waiting for, but is one of my nicer ones... the filter is virgin, no rust, the can has a really light color, and some rust I must treat...
    4. Hi, I only thought of it when it was too late, as usual... and I would go back and do the editing to all the threads, but I am more of an EK document guy, so the errors I would make would be numerous... If you have posted a bar, AND you have time, could you go back and edit the post, adding a small description as to what is on the bar, and anything else that comes to mind? It would be a huge added value to the threads. As it is it is great, they show all possible combinations, and for a "anything other than EK dud" like me, they are a real eye opener. Thanks for all the contributions! Best Chris
    5. You think? I was wondering what he was. Maybe Russian immigrant to the US?
    6. Apparently it was a DGSE unit that was in Somalia, DGSE elements on the ground in Mali, a Company of the 2nd REP arrived last night apparently, main job evacuating the 6000 French civilians there. Unfortunately for the rest of the Legion it was not a Legion unit on alert Guepard in France, The 2nd Rima from Auvours was the regiment on alert and will be reinforcing the French contingent on Mali, The RIMA are good men.
    7. French forces swooped into Somalia for a rescue mission under the cover of darkness, leading to a fierce gun battle with militants who killed the hostage, the French defense ministry said Saturday. The raid Friday night also left a French soldier and 17 Islamist fighters dead, according to the French ministry. Another soldier went missing. Hostage Denis Allex died at the hands of his captors, the defense ministry said in a statement. http://edition.cnn.com/2013/01/12/world/africa/somalia-helicopter-raid/index.html?hpt=hp_t1 Somalia as well... maybe they turned down Central Africa because they knew they needed the troops for other things
    8. Some more WW1 to compare the progression... I think the 2 rivet ones are between the wars and WW2 era?
    9. " France, which has posted troops in many locations in Africa, had said it wouldn't send combat troops to Mali and had pledged to scale back on intervening in local politics and conflicts in Africa. For example, it declined a request to intervene in the Central Africa Republic, where an insurgency flared. So the Mali operation underlines the seriousness of France's concern over its former colony. French hostages have been taken in neighboring Niger by al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb; Paris is trying to contain any further militant expansion in the heart of Africa." http://edition.cnn.com/2013/01/11/world/africa/mali-france/index.html?hpt=hp_t3
    10. although ks98 were made up into ww1 this maker mark was only used up until just after WW!
    11. I am no great collector of these, but have some for display on bayonets. The top KS98 does not fit on any rifle
    12. Just to compare, a WW1 KS98 at the bottom, with a WW1 era private purchase, both have 3 rivets... next to each other you dont really see a difference, but the top one does not fit on any rifle, inspite of the press stud working
    13. I dont know if it fits, but it is a beauty... as a non Länder collector, what are the awards? it is one fantastic looking bar!
    14. Indeed, hard to see on the auction, but I had a "feeling" I was seeing that...
