    1. This is a tiny piece... astounding quality for its size....
    2. Actually, a HK is more indicative of how much combat one saw than an EK. A Military policeman or military railway worker working 300 km from the front, but in occupied territory who got an EK for good service would have gotten a black ribbon EK2.... and a HK without swords. White ribboned EKs were for service inside the German borders... SERVICE outside the borders was black ribboned.
    3. I must say.... this is a fantastic thread with many, many things to learn.... especially "Never say never..." when you hear of unlikely careers....
    4. On the old style it was on the shoulder board....
    5. On the new style uniform it was on pocket (at least... as prepared by the regt tailor....)
    6. Hi, Here are 2 variations of the Radio/Morse operator insignia used in the Legion. I am not sure if the regular army used it as well.

    11. Hi, apparently Canadian tunics are the cheapest because the Canadians could keep theirs after the war (meaning there are more found today than British ones) How do you tell the difference between the two? The Brit and Canadian ones look the same to me :-( Best Chris

    14. Hi, I would guess our man just happened to land two sets of German tags at his unit, (I did the same thing in the army" and added a French one as a souvenir. If there is a good story as to where and why he got the French one... i guess we will never know.....
    15. Is anyone aware of folks who do reseach in Vienna? Paid researchers as well?
    16. That is a very interesting question indeed!!! I guess they could NOT, but it must have been more an issue for minor party officials or very old reservists. I suppose most of the Austrians still serving would have been officers. Best Chris
    17. Will check the maps tonight...
    18. Hi, does someone have a pic they can scan of a French Infantry soldier around 1830 (As the troops landing in Algerie would have looked) I guess asking for the 49th regt would be too much to ask so anyone from a regular infantry regiment would do. Thanks Chris

    23. Hi, its a question of taste, but I think it would look way better with the color patches, they go better with the medals. Great to see a family member making the effort! best Chris
