One of the things I like about the phot is it seems to confirm that the Germans, like the British, used bandsmen as standard-bearers. -

Is this an Artilleryman? Has anyone seen the chest badge before? Photo was taken in march 1916....

This photo is stamped "Nicht zur Ver?ffentlichung!" so i suppose it was an official photo that caught the old guy at the wrong moment... and somehow made its way to the public (ie. moi) years later... Can anyone place this? maybe an official ceremony?

A missing leg, a missing hand, a missing finger... probably a missing eye... and a single EK (so far) to show for it.... I am sure a number were awarded the EK later, especially the invalides...

Hi, that would have been great!! but this one was killed in the Champagne. On the Kriegsgr?ber site the onls Ludwig was killed in 1944 :-(
