    1. I never understood the points system. Found it pretty stupid to have the criteria based on Points AND time served. You have a regular count of points, extra ones coming for extra duties, overseas postings, even things like helicopter flights apparently count in some way. A guy I joined with worked in the comapny office, he said with all our opex we had almost enough for the gold after less than 5 years, but could not get it because of lack of time served. So, you can gather lots of points for active service, but this will not help you advance because the time served is also important. You can also loose the medal if you are a bad boy. Occasionaly you see guys with the outre mer but not with this, usually they hae had it taken away. The bars are not any award, they are more or less just decorative, so you can tell where the guy served. In the legion you automatically get it with the legion bar, if you have been on an overseas operation in the qualifying time the missions bar as well. if you were in the 3rd Infantry regiment you get the infantry bar at the same time. If you are in the 2nd Infantry regiment you dont get the infantry bar. The guys of the 2nd USED to get the bar, but then the regt got APCs and theyare technically no longer an infantry regiment, they are a motorised infantry regiment... for which there is no special bar. I guess there is a guy in an office somewhere who DOES understand it all
    2. I think it was our regimental commander. What is unusual is that in the legion they are very strict with people weariing non officialbits of uniforms or non standard things and this was accepted right off the bat, I never heard anyone even even wonder if it was official or not 8of course, it is not) best Chris
    3. Hi, close. I dont think that the UNO knows about it, but all members of Frebat who were stationed in Sarajevo were awarded their medal with this bar on it. there is also a small one for the ribbon bar. It is made just like an Outre-mer bar. best Chris
    4. Hi, any idea where you can buy them online?
    5. That one on the right is vastly superior. I am trying to find one to put on my bar. Do you think it is an older version or simply a very big variation from a different maker?
    6. about half the TOEs I bought in Morocco haveno sign at all of ever having had a star on the ribbon, the other half are almost all missing the stars, but have signs of having had them
    7. I prefer these finer made pieces to those big silver clunkers... technically these are more of intrest to british collectors as they are more likely found in british groups than WW1 groups... Can anyone give me a "Turkish medals 101" on exactly what they are? The bigger one I bought in Cairo, the smaller one in Scutari. The Turks seem to prefer the WW1 clunkers to these finer ones.
    8. Hi, this is to soeone in the 2nd Ligne regiment, he was born in Pays bas (Does that make him Dutch?). Are these the medals for a front fighter or would he have something different? Is the document official in some way?
    9. Here are mine. Only ting of note is the styles of bars. There is the overseas assistance missions bar and the foreign legion one. What I never understood was... the REP also got the Troupe Aeroporte bar, the 3rd infantry regt got the Infantry bar on their medal, but the 2nd infantry regiment never got the infantry bar due to some strange technicality.
    10. Seems to be the standad way of moiunting medals to be worn by women. Best Chris
    11. To answer this... he was buried at Champigny-St.-Andr? , so in Normandy. Question is... does anyone know if the panzer lehr was there? There were 2-3 Pionier Lehr units, the only one in normandy would have been the on in the panzer lehr
    12. Can anyone give a hand in establishing if the 2 beers are the same? http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=4041...184entry39184 Thanks Chris
    13. Exactly ! With a digital camera and Irfanview you can take on the world ! you can determine the size, crop of the parts you dont need etc. etc.
    14. that is what confuses me, usually you always see French vets with fulsized medlas. Every year on the 14th July at out regt they used to award medals to vets, for guys who had served WW2etc. all of these guys, when wearing medals, had the regular ones. best cHRIS
    15. Hi, thanks, I had never seen them being worn. Is there a website where you can buy minitures? I would be intrested t see what is availible. best Chris
    16. Hi, there is one on this thread http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=4007&hl= but am curious. i never saw French soldiers wearing miniatures ... who were these made for? Foreign recipients? best Chrie
    17. A good friend had just about bought it, then the seller backed out and sold it to a dealer (breaking up an over 25 year friendship). I never got to see it, but from the guy I should have got it i am sure it was 100% kosher... he really knows his stuff. mAYBE IT WAS an anamoly and both were issued in error?
