    1. I am not sure, from what I heard a Russian contacted Weitze and sold him a whole crateful. Some top layers had a bit of damage to the boxes, the lower layers were virgin.... and at the time everyone I knew in germany thought the man was crazy for the high price he was asking for them (Man!!)... little did we know...... what crazy prices would be like nowdays !!!
    2. Hi, you are talking about the famous "26ers". I doubt anyonehas a problem with them these days.
    3. I used to have 3 docs to one guy... KVK2 with swords, KVK2 without swords and a KVM... must have been unique... when I tried to sell, noone was intrested :-(
    4. The largest EK doc so far... specially for the Maik?fer
    5. Who sidelines in iron cross ephemera? Ww1 seems by far to be the high point, during the war and in the years that followed. Mayn things were decotrated with an EK. Postcard, rings, jewllary, clates, cups, chocolate tins, baccy tins, cigar boxes, the list goes on and on. I have also passed it up when I saw it, but of late I have been buying it when I see it cheap. Anyone else find it itresting?
    6. Hi Guys, if you have time, could you please post the award dates of any WW1 certificates you have? Just month and year. You can PM them as well if you want. Its for a project I am working on. Thanks Chris

    8. What kind of >uniform is he wearing ??
    9. I think it may be a german one, the curved forward sides seem to be a feature to these. There was a US dealer who bought a museum in Belgium and had many WW1 things on his site, including 3 variation shields, one similar to this one. he did not know for sure if they were german either..... Anyone have a field photo of these in use? Thanks Chis
    10. This one will turn Chip green with envy... on to the 15th bavarian Sturm Batln. for a patrol where they took POWs.
    11. This is a real wower... For the regt after the fighting at the Souville Nase at verdun. The guys who fought there wore an unofficial award on their uniform...
    12. Would love to know who they were awarded to. How many French officers had te MC? I assume if the medals could talk.. they would have an interesting tale to tell....
    13. They are suprisingly no so expensive, I guess because not a lot of folks have a way to display them. A US dealer had 3 variations for about $200 -250 a pop. I would bought them all... but postage woulda killed me. I know a dealer here wih 2 for EUR150 a piece. Its a joke when you compare them to the prices of other things.
    14. http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/americas/09/...reut/index.html
    15. Didnt you want to show how it was worn, once way back when? ;-)
    16. That article gave me a chuckle indeed! Riding...polo... pig sticking... I spent big money indeed on a book by an officer of the regt and it more or less goes like this... Chapter 1-20 Riding...polo... pig sticking...Riding...polo... pig sticking...Riding...polo... pig sticking...Riding...polo... pig sticking... damned war..Riding...polo... pig sticking...Riding...polo... pig sticking...Riding...polo... pig sticking... Ah... what a life it must have been back then...
    17. Hi Jens, I cheated... Daniel gave me this one.. I did not have to carry it through the mud, just from his garage to my car ;-)
    18. Ha ha... when we relieved a company in Saravevo we inherited over 2000 bottles of issue wine... and in the crossing patrols at Sarajevo airport we liberated Slivowitz all the time.... We had a couple of pissheads but usually no problem. I remember being on guard when the captain came down to his office with the Company sgt major who seemed a bit tipsy one night, they went into his office and closed the door. About 2 minutes later a Senior sgt came shooting down, asked if the company sgt mjr was in the captains office. I nodded yes and he went crashing through the door and like in a disney movie they came rolling out throwing punches in all directions, bouncing off some large glass doors. The captain came out shouting to seperate them because they were they would damage the doors (would have then been real, real cold !!) Oh man, the things that happen It has to be watched, but the occasional drink while overseas does no harm.
    19. Dont have t in front of me, but yours seems to correspond exactly to the wifes great grandfathers, box and all.
    20. Thats a blast from the past. I did indeed sell it, it came from a KC winner. it was sold, lost in the mail, and never seen again. Having sent it uninsured for the buyer to look at ... I was out about $500 on what I got back in insurance..... Ah well, life goes on... Chris
    21. ahhhh.... that would make research to easy wouldnt it ??? The germans planned for long term research pleasures... its for that reason they published thousand page historical tomes without an index as well !!
    22. From what i can see it was koscher in every respect. I would guess a WW2 vet who was rather miffed he could not wear his medals on his civie suit and had himself this made up so at least the waiters in the Champs could see them when he paid?
    23. My one has domed silver buttons... are these replacement or early ? best Chris
