    1. This just arrived today... unlike most guys, he had no WW1 sevice, was born in 1901, spent a short time in Freikorps von Epp, then transfered into the Schutzeregiment 1
    2. It may be my imagination but it looks like a domed cross....
    3. Gefreiter Scherer on the 24th September 1918... It is very possible that it is his award document clutched in his hand....
    4. I think it called a "Totenkopfschwimmer", there is a different version around today. When the 2 FW skulls landed up at DN his picker thought they were the Schwimmer badge.
    5. Hi, that is fantastic. I have one issued in London, if I remember right the guy was a waiter, nad one from either Norway or Sweden, cannot remember which. <Nice find indeed!!
    6. Funny, but two guys have IR116.... I am curious as to why? Not saying they are not, but that 2 guys say the same unit is against the odds with such a big choice... I would imagine this has to sart by picking out the Hard Rocker divisions, those used as spearheaders in offensive fighting?
    7. Hi, is there any chance a newly minted Officer recycled a tunic previously worn by someone else? Best Chris
    8. Hi, agreed, but there are many Ehrenkreuz job titels that are so archaic, things that have long since beien taken over by machines, felt hat stretchers, railway crossing guards, a long list of quaint but antiquated job descriptions....
    9. HI, Agree that the KS98 was more of a MG sawback. Chris, Agreed, Marine Infantry, but pic taken in DSWA, Best Chris
    10. "Haha, yes indeed I am! What I should have said is that the vast majority of bayonets for the DSWA Schutztruppe at this time were kS98, which all had the sawback... there are always odd exceptions like that one." Ta-daaaaaaaaa :-)
    11. Oh COME ON.... I know what this is all about..... You are just looking for a way to show a ragged bit of canvas..... or am I wrong ;-)
    12. The soldiers face looks like one of the twin detectives from the TinTin books!
    13. You are really really lucky for 2 reasons.. 1) to get this piece 2) To have recieved this piece.... (My experiance is, when I show photos of something before it arrives at my house... usually means the postoffice looses it... it is a jinx!)
