    1. Hi have to find the photo, will get it up asap. best Chris
    2. About that, but just with the number. best Chris
    3. Question for a champion............. would they have been awarded to non Prussians? Would homeland Bavaria (as opposed to combat units outside the borders) be allowed to award Prussian awards? and would the prussians do it for them? I am guessing for homeland services Bavarians did not get the EK, but rather a Bavarian award. A guess based on gut feeling...
    4. I saw a pic today (will try to scan it) of what I think was a divisional staff. One officer had a badge on his right upper arm. it looks like a black oval with silver border, in the middle the number 46 or 48.... Does anyone have an idea? Thanks Chris
    5. I Have a couple of sets with the Prussian war service cross and EK2, One awardexd to a bavarian soldier, wounded, invalided out, then working as a civilian he got the service cross. It is indeed out of the loop for a normal soldier, but possible. Best Chris
    6. Hi, sorry, my mistake, I should have mentioned, old chubby cheeks is almost a dead ringer for hindie in this pic, is in fact von Eichhorn. Best Chris
    7. So if a general wanted to be "one of the boys" he took off all his glitter, put on the EKs and went for a walk.... ;-) I agree.
    8. An example.... and I have Hindenburg looking the same somewhere....
    9. Have been looking at some pics of highre officers, Really high officers with boxes of medals and pin back awards... It seems that if ever they "dress down" the awards they still leave on is the EK1 and maybe its ribbon... inspite of having other, higher awards.... Why do you think this is? or am I imagining it? All the best Chris
    10. OK, taking into account all the info above. I am offering a reward of 50 USD to anyone who can produce a copy/photo/scan (or simply proof) of a Kaisers HQ version of an EK doc to anyone earlier than 1916. Using the D Niemann Prussian doc book, page 320 has the same kinda deal... very high ranking officers, getting awards from the Militär-Kabinett Chef were informed the Kaiser had approved their award... basta. There is a document on page 325... but this is a preliminary Ausweis (i.e. also no official certificate) and 15 months later, when the awarding of printed documents was in full swing... As we know the Kaiser had intended to eventually issue official docs, and this was only changed in 1918... we can assume that Pelkmann's letter, like Pawlowskis letter on page 320... were "it" for them. There simply was not a high enough authority issuing documents to cover an award like Pelkmann's at the time when he received it, he would have to have a lower unit issue him his document... and why bother when you have a letter from the Kabinetts. Anyway, USD50 for anyone who can prove (or convince me) that Pelkmanns letter was anything less than his "award doc"... Best Chris
    11. Hi, I think it is the standard officers one for 1870 with printed Signature. I am trying and trying and trying and trying to find an example or two (just a pic would do) of EKs to generals or higher 14-18... if anyone has something to show?
    12. I did... just when I had cleared all my debts... I figured it was a once in a lifetime chance. either this one... or forget about ever getting one. I wrestled with my principles... and beat them. now I have to tell the wife... It seems he was in the 2. Garde landwehr Regiment... as I dont really "do" 1870 I have no idea what they did and where they fought....
    13. I wish I did to.... the wife is going to freeking kill me for this......... :-(
    14. well, do it every now and then and she will stay a happy girl.... :-)
    15. I have a Feuerwalze map for te Kaiserschlacht somewhere...
    16. His EK2 1870 doc is going... going... soon to be gone.... http://cgi.ebay.de/Orig-Urkunde-EK2-1870-fuer-ein-Generalfeldmarschall_W0QQitemZ180466785854QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMilitaria?hash=item2a04a89e3e
    17. I think both are British made, although maybe captured and used by the Boers. Very typical of the Boer war stuff I had as a kid in South ASfrica.
