    1. He was in the 19th Bavarian Inf Regt... so this is a mystery....
    2. Here is another challenge... He is listed as missing... but what is the other pencil mark?
    3. No! No! Photo taken on the 28th December 1957... The photographer set his camera on a really, really slow shutter speed, told the constable to smile... hit the button... went for a beer.... and a week later thought "sh1t! I forgot about Constable Jones!" When he got there the subject was still at attention, the smile now rather pained... and as the photographer arrived the constable did morse code with his eylids "Please Sir! May I now move!?" But serious... I really think this was published in 1957, showing the new uniforms that were to be introduced in 1958. I remember when we changed from Khaki to grey dress uniforms, the photo brochures were there with pictures months in advance. Best Chris
    4. No no! That is Gross! I meant the one when you unroll it... stick the tip in your nose, breath it in and through your nasal passage... then reach to the back of your throat and pull it out your mouth....
    5. Funny pic! :-) It must be ripped off from the ancient philosophical question "If I say something in the forest, and my wife is not there to hear it...am I still wrong?"
    6. I guess you are from the digicam era? Back in the old days photographers could use "Fast film", or "slow film" depending on what effect they wanted to achieve.. In Southern Africa they also had "really, really, slow film"... and you could get all kinds of effects, this being one example :-) But my guess is, in the 1957 issue of "the outpost" they were showing the uniforms being introduced for 1958...
    7. Hi, will ask him when I see him again. Best Chris
    8. Hi, a friend dug up a pic in a pile of photos of what must be 2 U-Boot POWs. They look really spiffy in leather pants, battledress and U-Boot badges. How comman were the battle dresses? Best Chris
    9. And he has the 600 series? Cron has been the Bibel for years and he makes no mention of them at all. Ruhmeshalle does not have them, Have never seem them ,mentioned in any history of East or West front... 251 divs does not have them, just what WERE the 600 series regiments? Why does it have a town name associated with it? Best Chris
    10. I am betting that in a few cases a firm in (lets say) London makes awards for a few countries. As some of these are multi part medals, if they can use the same dies to 80% to make a medal from country XXX and country YYY... they try and get the designs amended to suit their needs. Nice comparisons! Best Chris
    11. Love the moustache... looks so "Retro" ;-) Best Chris
    12. Hi, ouch! It seems so! Can you suggest any books that have these Regiments mentioned? Thanks Chris
    13. At fisrt I thought it was a typo.... but no... this guy WAS in Infantry regiment 603 !?!?!?!?!?!?! http://cgi.ebay.de/Militaerpass-1Wk-InftrRgt-603-Hildesheim-Freikorps-Bremen_W0QQitemZ290366264427QQcmdZViewItemQQptZB%C3%BCro_Papier_Schreiben?hash=item439b2d946b Someone help me! I cannot fond it anywhere.... yet the entries are 100% kosher in the book, even the stamps! What the hell is it!?!?!?
    14. Ahhh... yes... Scandanavian soldiers/Winter depression and booze... I spent a cold, cold winter in Bosnia With Swedes and Norweigians... never a lack of booze... For a few months I to was walking around with balls of Snus compacted between my gums and lips... learned how to drink and even smoke without removing the chewing tabacco... on occasion even to eat with it in... On one drunken night a Scndanavin officer taught me the condom trick... I imagine they have badges for boozing in Scandanavia...
    15. Sometimes you get what you need... sometimes you get something you do not need... but its a bit cool anyway...
    16. Really not my field of collecting, but it made its way to me anyway.... 6th Uhlanen from Hanau...
