    1. I would be interested in where he got his stats from. I unfortunately lost the data, but had done a monthly breakdown on about 650 EK award docs and there were proportionally way less for 1915. Would be very interested where he got these stats from. Best Chris.
    2. Would be intereted to see the numbers, and the source. best Chris
    3. The division in question was rated as "Suspect/undependable and sent to the Russian front (General Gaede did not trust Alsatians/Lorraine men. The document print style is what I call an "Eastern Front" print style as they are founs ALMOST exclusively to Eastern Front units or units just returned from the east and still having stocks of these docs. best Chris
    4. Statistically 1915 was the dry year as far as EKs went. 1914 saw as many awards as 1916, 1917 and 1918 except for the end of 18 where there is a slight rise. This was not a last ditch attempt to raise moral, but to reward the deserving before it was too late. Best Chris
    5. Walter Hoffmann was an NCO in the Bavarian 2. Chevauleger regiment in WW1. Was a Kommiss?er in N?rnberg-F?rth in 1934 (according to his HK doc. Any slight chance that anyone has anything on him? Thanks Chris
    6. I think it could indeed be. The shell does not fit into the case, the shell goes into the artillery piece, then the charge, then the shellcase with detonator. Best Chris
    7. Very nice indeed. I wish I had one of theEK docs for the raid. Best Chris
    8. HI, in this case it would be the Fort de Tavannes, to the South East of the Fort Souville. The germans did not reach Tavannes and I think it was mainly a wounded station and ammunition supply (there was a loooong underground tunnel in front of the fort. Detrus was probably carrying wounded in the area South of Fort Vaux to the tunnel. Both Eix and the fort Tavannes are behind the lines in the South East corner of the battlefield. Best Chris
    9. His medal citation says he was killed at his post... but this says how... and I am having trouble reading it.... Any ideas? Thanks Chris SrvImg.php.jpg
    10. The windows have a reddish tinge.
    11. Above was with flash, this is with natural light.
    12. I have been doing some research into the document group of this medic killed in action at Verdun.... Notice the document with the mention that there is a stone engraved with his name at the bonehouse at Verdun. There were about two thirds of the soldiers killed that were never identified, the remains of tens of thousands are in the bonehouse. The interior of the building has many names engraved on the stones. I set out to find Armand Detrus stone, and as luck would have it... it was in the most prominent position in the enclave where he was killed. The Marble slabs are the tops of huge tombs that have the bones gathered in specific sectors. This window bay has for Eix and Tavennes. You can see where Detrus's stone is. Here the link to his docs and a write up about what the medics went through. http://www.kaiserscross.com/40056/40625.html I had to get permission to take a pic as it is normally forbidden.
    13. Our latest finds :-) http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=2117...mp;#entry201936
    14. Blitz!!! Collect PAPER !!! Its waaaaay cheaper and easy to reserch!!!
    15. Any idea what this was? I can ony assume the name was in the top part (of the guy) and maybe a collar disc was worn on the gong?
    16. Do you have a link to the FJP page? Thanks Chris
    17. Hi, some doo dads for my WW1 Window. A WW1 purple heart or two earned in interesting sectors... some WW1 patches etc. etc. AAG? Are you sure on that one? best Chris
    18. Hi, thanks, I have mailed them. I tried them months ago with an enquiry but got no answer... maybe this time. best Chris
    19. Indeed, but the DRL DRGM was a copyright for the design of the badge and it came on no matter who made the badge. I have seen 3 variations of EK with this, all Meybauer made crosses... then this. There is an off chance that another maker used these... but so far none spotted... and then... why would they bother? If i am not mistaken, they would have had to pay Meybauer to use their copyrighted simple nut designed by them? Easier to make a nut of your own and pay nothing ? I would guess very likely Meyerbauer, with a "Never say never" possibility that someone else may have used these. (Has anyone seen one on a non Meybauer product?)
    20. Googling gets you endless modern medal sellers and surplus sellers.... Can anyone suggest a few dealers that have worthy sites with items from WW1 (Medals, Uniforms etc.) Thanks Chris
    21. A very fine looking piece indeed. Superb quality. The Cypher is separately added?
    22. I think everyone should calm down, get the clashes of ego out of the way. Lets start with the medal posted. One guy says its good... one says its bad. Maybe both parties should put up and say WHY they think what they think? Please.... WITHOUT polemic.
