    1. 21st of September 1914 for his EK award (according to the Regt history), the doc done in mid 1916.
    2. And here he is, of Douaumont fame. I have a doc group to a man who served with him in WW1 and in the Freikorps... was curious how big the Freikorps was. A few later SS Generals were in it, as was Ramcke.
    3. I am not sure who made this, but I find it is a really nice one indeed !!!
    4. Hi, sorry, no photo. 2 bottons side by side, black piping on top. Litzen on the collar that are on a backing, with the carmine red piping around it. I wish I could describe it better !
    5. I saw a nice one today. It had Lt. boards. the underlay was a carmine pinky reddy colour (not the usual red) with black on top. Down the front and on the back were the same carmine piping, above the cuffs was black piping. Any idea what these colors mean? Cavalry? It had litzen on the collar with carmine piping as well. Thanks Chris
    6. Indeed. In combat they were often worn without spikes. There is the famous example of a company in Verdun collecting all the spikes in 2 bags before going into action. Somewhere along the way the spikes got lost. After the action the kaiser was coming to visit... What to do? carve spikes out of potatoes and pull the grey cloth cover over the helmet. Best is just to send it to me ;-)
    7. Hi Dave, Does the book have any of the citations? Thanks Chris
    8. Hi, does anyone have any nice Freikorps documents to share?
    9. Hi, does anyone have any info about this unit? especially how big it was, how many companies etc? Thanks Chris
    10. Hi, thanks for the info!! His EK2 doc cost me EUR30 this morning. A piece of history saved!
    11. OK, the EK 2 award doc is signed in March 1916.... very late for a major to get an EK2 In the regt history he gets the EK1 in 1915. I am 100% sure he got the EK2 in 1914, he commanded a Batln in some hot spots... no way he had to wait so long for an EK2. Just goes to show the dates for the signing of an EK 2 doc often have nooooothing to do with the award date. Anyone know his first name and pedigree? thanks Chris
    12. Hi, from what I understand, this is a WW1 one. Thanks for the PM! All the best Chris
    13. In the 2nd Batln RIR31 in March 1916.... Major Freiherr von B??ow gets a lowly EK2. 1) Why so late???? 2) Anyone know who he is/was ? Thanks Chris
    14. I just saw a Baden "F?r Tapferkeit" silver medal today (Karl Friedrich medal?) Named simply to a man "L?ffler" Do you think there is any chance in getting an ID on the man and the deed? Thanks Chris
    15. Man.... that old paper of yours always blows me away. I hope my WW1 docs keep as well as those, but I suspect the paper quality may not be the same :-(
    16. Today an article, a rather dramatic one, was added about the machine Gunners in no mans land facing von Einems attackers in the last German offensive in the Champagne. An Iron Cross and a Croix de Guerre for the action. http://www.kaiserscross.com/40056/43422.html
    17. I do indeed. Impossible to date the holes, but they were done by a real craftsman/Jeweller.
    18. A good question indeed... Those holes look like a profi job, not some guy with a dremel tool in the basement.
    19. That seems logical... every soldier wants to look like an old salt... I would think the "real" u-boot men would have really taken the pss out of a newbie with a badge like this!! Although maybe they would have put it on to great the new, NON Frontreif folks? Either way, dodgy to say the best IMHUO
    20. We have all been there.... its the starting block...... and the cross country track ahead is looooooong with great views along the way.... In fact... its a track that never ends!!!!
    21. I have to check, but I think I have the same somewhere with a simple "800" stamp...
    22. Hi, Mentions of the MG units I only have for end of 1916 and 1918 for the 11. Armee. If we are talking 1915 then it is a Gebirgs MG Abt. the 201-251 were formed in this time period. Unfortunately not divisional so they are rather difficult to pin down. GlennJ may have them All the best Chris
