    2. I clicked on the "new threads" link and see a new thread entitled "Butt treatment" with the latest post by Peter saying "Go with beeswax, it prevents desication..." Then I get all excited and click on it.... And find this. Imagine my dissapointment.....
    3. Another Leib Regiment Stein, this for the Leiber association, it has a nice version of the member rosette on the lid, the design on the Stein is the same as the one on the membership certificate. The Name Ludwig Ganser is engraved in the rim, the joined in August 1914.
    4. I must check, but I would say average for the WW1 era pieces, best Chris
    5. This is from a seller who sells everything but militaria.... So not from the collecting scene.... it is a veeery thin metal, has anyone seen one like it? Which period? Thanks Chris
    6. Hi, I am guessing that as sweetheart badges were privatly made there was room for error.... a bit like walking out of a tattoo artist wirh "No Ragrets" tattoed on your back...
    7. Am interesting campaign.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fashoda_Incident
    8. Hi, a group of the members are watching the female mud wrestling world cup, but will hopefully be back as soon as Yemen wins..... :-)
    9. Indeed, I think as the war progressed men in uniform began to calculate the odds and made their peace with them...
    10. ... incase they jinx you... Heinrich Näpfel was born on the 7.2.1897 in Gunzenhausen. M;obilised in 1916 he joined the Bavarian 19th Reserve Pionier Company Nr. 19. He was killed on a Patrol on the Somme on the 2.6.1918 with an artillery splinter to the head. I saw this on ebay ages ago, but the "buy it now" ended and I had forgotten to buy it, So I was happy to get it this time round. Strangely he looks to have more Infantry kit although he was in Pionier units all the way through.... "A small momento from your friend Heinrich Näpfel in case I should not return"
    11. Hi Guys, thank you all very much... Johann Nauder, 20th Bavarian Infantry Regiment, Born 5.12.1892 All the best Chris
    12. I think these are pretty cool... notice the detail on the tiny cross in the cockade, and the cockade with splints and holes!!!!
    13. Hi, nice blades! Are the boots original?? All the best Chris
    14. Hi Uwe,, as always, thanks a million, your efforts are really appreciated. All the best Chris
    15. Hi, I realise this is a lot, but I am having problems making any progress... if someone has a lot of time... I would need it in German.... Thanks Chris
    16. Hi, he has both cockades. The photo is dated 1917 in Romania.
    17. Does anyone know what this is? Private purchase I guess.... but the top pockets seem to be totally useless? Being worn by a member of the 10th Reserve Jäger Battalion....
    18. Indeed, but would they have worn a stiff Schirmmütze in the field, or a more floppy one? And secondly, was a Reitmütze only for mounted Cavalry officers, or for all officers mounted on a horse (Infantry, Artillery etc.) Best Chris
    19. Here is a question..... I have seen photos of prewar excercises with infantry officers on horseback.... when they arrived at the evening bivouak, would they have worn a stiff cap? Then this photo of officers with litewka on the range.... also lower brimmed caps?
    20. " I have lost track at how many times I have told my wife that a pending purchase was a “once in a lifetime” find. I seem to have, she’s reflected on many occasions, more “lifetimes” than a cat. " do we share a wife????????
    21. Hi Guys, it is indeed much lighter than a regular one. You can literally fold it into your pocket. The seller was sneaky, he did not mention the color in the description, and in the photos it looked Field Grey!! I suppose if I find a cavalry collector I may be able to trade it... Best Chris
    22. Dave beat me to the list, what would also be interesting would be if someone had received an EK2 on a white ribbon, but them went into the army and recieved an EK1 for military operations..... would technically be possible I think? I think there may be an age factor there though....
