    1. Hi Ulsterman, Yeah, the medals are attached with hooks on the back, probably the reason all its medals are missing in the first place. In fact i was thinking of buying it to fix it up, but there seems to be mixed feelings on that type of 'restoration'. But just to know, would the long service medal be a regular one or a landwehr one due to the luitpold medal and the fact that it is non-combatant? And also due to the luitpold medal issued in 1905, assume the long service medal is a 15 year one..... By the way, as I just realised, should the hindenburg cross be in front, considering that the King Ludwig cross and the War Aid cross were both issued during the war? And would the Luitpold medal be the 'normal' one or the one with the crown on top. To be honest I don't know the difference between the two Thanks a lot for your time and patience, Matthew
    2. Not fake per se, but messed up. Must have been a nice non-combatant bar once. Regards, Matthew
    3. Hi all, The bar in question is currently on ebay, and the thing that first made me suspcious was the fact that it only has a 333 euro starting price, and that no one has bid on it. However, you never know. Thanks for your opinions. Regards, Matthew
    4. Would a war aid medal really be mounted in front of an order of the red eagle? Regards Matthew
    5. Ah, so you were watching the auction as well. Thank you for your information saschaw, and i hope i didn't bid against you. Regards Matthew
    6. Hi all, Would like to continue this thread with a purchase I just made. Does anybody have any idea of how many were awarded? Also, would anyone like to venture to say whether I made a good original purchase or not? Regards, Matthew
    7. Wonderful bar misiu!!!! Christerd, from what I can tell that award is the Lippe-Detmold House Order 4th class. Regards, Matthew
    8. The knight's 2nd class is the lowest grade of the order, right? So any other grade must have the wreath. Thanks for clearing that up. Matthew
    9. Hi all, Just to ask a question related to this topic which I have not yet been able to figure out. The Saxony Albert Order had to add-ons of swords, crown and wreath. Like other states, I assume swords meant a wartime award and a crown an award for extra merit. But the wreath has got me stumped. Anyone care to inform me why some examples of the order have the wreath and others don't? Thanks very much, Matthew
    10. Would buying the bar to restore it be a good thing or would it encourage him in the long run to destroy more of them? Just wondering. Matthew
    11. Really? I noticed this one just because I placed a bid on the bar when it was being sold for the first time, then saw it for sale again. If he is doing this regularly, all the more shame on him. Regards, Matthew
    12. i wished something bad to this person for bringing the state of the bar from picture one to picture two? It was on ebay a week ago and now its back on, minus the medals which the seller is selling separately. Matthew Former state Current State
    13. Hi all. Unfortunately i was outbid at the last minute, however i appreciate your help and advice. Regards, Matthew
    14. Hi all, Not to be bothersome or anything, but the auction closes in less than 24 hours. I realise that you are all probably busy, but even one sentence would help me a lot. Regards, Matthew
    15. Hi all, Could anyone tell me wheher the Silver cross of merit of the house order shown below is original or not. According to the seller it weighs 31 grams. It is 57.9mm high including ribbon ring, 41.2 mm wide and 7mm thick. What I know about this medal is that it is made out of silver and less than 400 were awarded. To tell the truth, i'm asking about it just because it is not common, and therefore i am being very cautious. (And not to moan, but it is quite an expensive buy for a 16 year old ) Thank you all for your help and time, Matthew
    16. Hi Matthew, There are often exceptions to what I said above, such as wearing them in the order given to the recipient, as you said. However, I believe that most soldiers wore them by the size of the state. For example, why is the iron cross nearly always on the far left, if not because Prussia was the biggest and most important state? And where there are bavarian awards they are nearly always exactly behind prussian ones. Then saxon, wurttemberg and so on. In fact, since you collect medal bars with hanseatic crosses (which by the way I really like) I think you'll find them near the end of the medal bar, since the free cities were the least important of all the states. Regards, Matthew
    17. I agree with you both, especially when I look at the precedence of the awards. I would have thoguth that the brunswick cross would be the near the front due to the fact that brunswick is the biggest state (apart from Prussia) in this grouping. Regards Matthew
    18. Im just bringing this topic up again to ask whether anyone has ever come across a silver medal of the order of leopold made out of nickel silver and not real silver? Thanks Matthew
