    1. Hi Megan, Here is some additional information ; Order of Good Hope (1973-2002) Awarded to foreign citizens (and, from 1980 to 1988, to South Africans too), for promoting international relations with the increasingly isolated apartheid state. The order was originally divided into five classes: Grand Collar - for heads of state only. Grand Cross - for heads of government, ministers of state, judges, presidents of legislatures, secretaries of state, ambassadors, commanders-in-chief, and others. Grand Officer - for legislators, envoys, senior military officers, and others. Commander - for chargés d'affaires, consuls-general, colonels, and others. Officer - for consuls, lower-ranking military officers, and others. The order was reorganised in 1988: Grand Cross - for excellent meritorious service (heads of state and, in special cases, heads of government). Grand Officer - for outstanding meritorious service (heads of government, ministers of state, judges, presidents of legislatures, secretaries of state, ambassadors, commanders-in-chief, and others). Commander - for exceptionally meritorious service (legislators, envoys, senior military officers, and others). Officer - for meritorious service (chargés d'affaires, consuls-general, colonels, and others). Member - for exceptional service (consuls, lower-ranking military officers, and others). Insignia: An 8-pointed multi-rayed gold or silver star, displaying two white doves on a turquoise roundel (obverse) and the national coat of arms (reverse).
    2. Are they real ?? The bottom left 'swastika' has it's centre sideways - can't believe Latvia would make such a mistake for this order.
    3. Hiya, I think his first name is Charles and not Chas. Regards, Marcon1.
    4. If you have a lot of money (as a king of Egypt would have) you can buy a lot of nice and rare things. Which is why I'm still trying to win the jackpot in the Dutch State Lottery, but so fare no luck 😞 marcon1.
    5. Hiya, I've seen this medal on 2 occasions and still don't know what it really is - official or a private issue ?? It's now on offer on Bobshop for R 1475 and described as = original Ciskei TBVC ex RSA Bantustan dd "1981" freedom or establishment (neck worn) medal/medallion (Civilian order/ award?) someone has suggested that this might have been the celebratory award handed to traditional leaders and chiefs etc. at the time of Ciskei Independence 05 Dec 1981 (?). Does anyone know more (Archie/Megan ??) - please let me know. Thank you. Marcon1.
    6. Hi Archie, Gold version is new to me, so thank you. Is there also a bronze version ?? Regards, Marcon1.

    8. Hiya, No, since this was nothing more than mass killings of Emu's (large flightless birds) in Western Australia. Nothing to be proud of and make a medal/badge for it. Marcon1.
    9. So he served for 50 years and in the end he was still a private ?!?!?! - Not really a career soldier than. I would love to know his military record concerning promotions and demotions - if any, since he earned a 2nd. bar to his LSGC.
    10. Hiya, Just added to my collection. With S925 and SAM hallmark. CISKEI Prisons Service Gallantry Cross (PGC) (1988-94) First one I have seen in the 'flesh' in 23 years of collecting. Didn't come cheap - € 257,00 - but worth every cent. Regards, Marcon1.

    18. Hiya, Found this. Rare Military Academy Medal of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I with original handwoven ribbon. 1st Class, Gilted. Ethiopia. 1950s. If you look at the ribbons of the above militaria-agent.com photo you will notice 2 different ribbons, which suggests there is also a silver medal (2nd. class ??). This info found in 10 minutes of googling using google images 😁 Regards, Marcon1. Rare Military Academy Medal of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I with original handwoven ribbon. 3rd Class, Bronze. Ethiopia. 1950s. Another 2 minutes spend.
    19. Hi Archie, Good to know because I bought it !! It is in my collection now 😁 Regards, Marco. See my posting - Transkei medal - another unknown variety ??
    20. Hi Megan, If they are not awarded but are produced, than include them in your listing so that people know what is what. Just state that they were never awarded, I'm sure there are many others (especially the more 'higher' ODM's) that never got awarded. See 2 examples below. The Queen Elizabeth II version was introduced after her succession to the throne in 1952 and has her effigy, facing right and wearing the Tudor Crown. It is circumscribed "ELIZABETH II D:G: BR: OMN: REGINA F: D:" reading around from the top. It is identical to the first Queen Elizabeth II obverse design of the British Efficiency Medal. Scroll bar The scroll bar on the Queen Elizabeth II version was English only, but this medal was never awarded since it was superseded within a few months of the Queen's succession to the throne. Air Efficiency Award (1950-52) A South African variant of a British medal, intended as an award for 10 years CF service in the SA Air Force. It was never awarded, probably because SAAF personnel were already eligible for the ED and Efficiency Medal. Insignia: An oval silver medal depicting the head of King George VI (obverse) and the words "Air Efficiency Award - Toekenning vir Bekwaamheid (Lugmag)" (reverse), with the name of the country on the suspender. So, you see there are more 'never awarded' medals out there and people should know about these just in case they come across one. Regards, Marcon1.
    21. Hiya, Here are some better pictures. SWA PRO NITENDO MEDAL -NEVER ISSUED. PROPOSED SWA INDEPENDENCE MEDAL-NEVER ISSUED. SWA SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR-BRONZE MEDALLION-LARGE-MEASURES 60 MM. Regards, Marcon1.
    22. Hiya, I saw this medal on Bobshop and it looks like a silver medal. DESCRIBED AS = Transkei 30 Years Service Medal - Full Size, Named Lt. Kol Baker - 1981. However, the only medal in my listings that look like it is = Transkei Independence Medal (1976) Issued to founder members of the force in 1976. Insignia: A circular bronze medal displaying the Transkei coat of arms (obverse) and "Uzimele 26.10.76" (reverse). Is this another unlisted variety ??? Or are the bronze versions for the lower ranks and silver for the higher ranks ?? Who can tell me more about it. Regards, Marcon1.
    23. Hiya, I saw this medal on Bobshop and I noticed, that it is missing the coat of arms on the back. I've a picture of this medal with the coat of arms. Now I'm wondering, is this a museum copy or a fake (looks badly finished) or is it a (for me) a unknown variety ?? Who can tell me more about it. Regards, Marcon1.
