    1. Stuart - so sorry to hear of the demise of your good friend and dog Jack. (I attended 3 job interviews in 3 days and have not had time to read the GMIC, sorry for the delay.)

    2. Nice, Greg. Might you be willing to grant permission for that image to be used on my website? (With acknowledgement, of course!) I'd like to show how the award developed. What sort of date would you reckon for the one I posted?
    3. Ehrentitel Verdienter Aktivist Instituted 1950. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_01_2011/post-1530-0-98054600-1295635776.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_01_2011/post-1530-0-74917400-1295635795.jpg
    4. Kollektiv der sozialistischen Arbeit Instituted: 15 March 1952. Not sure what it was awarded for, apart from being a diligent worker! This is the final version, as worn 1973-89. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_01_2011/post-1530-0-81796900-1295537159.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_01_2011/post-1530-0-65761400-1295537178.jpg
    5. This is the 3rd type, awarded 1965-89: However I have no picture of the Type 2 awarded 1956-64...
    6. Ehrenzeichen der Deutschen Volkspolizei Instituted: 1949. Awarded: For outstanding achievements, personal bravery and faithful service in the area of law enforcement, and for the protection of the DDR and the East German people. It started off as a pin-back badge, this was awarded 1949-55
    7. Medaille für die Teilnahme an den bewaffneten Kämpfen der deutschen Arbeiterklasse 1918-23 Does anyone know the date of institution or terms of award, please?
    8. Hans-Beimler-Medaille Instituted: 1956. Awarded: To pro-republican anti-fascist volunteers in the Spanish Civil War. It is normally seen in the 'civilian' version: But occasionally mounted for military wear:
    9. Have you read the Press Kit? http://www.scribd.com/doc/19964515/NASA-Space-Shuttle-STS8-Press-Kit
    10. On the HAC ribbon: you are correct, Mervyn: members of the Honourable Artillery Company use the special ribbon on LS&GC awards for their volunteer service, but on both full-size & miniature medals. The colours are said to be based on the Royal racing colours. May I request permission to use the MLM image on my website, please? (With, of course, acknowledgement of source.) As you say, it's rare and these are the only decent pictures I've seen of one!
    11. Depends what you think it is. The Tudor rose is worn thus - spike at top - as is the Lancashire rose, the York rose t'other way up. (Thus writes someone who attended the University of York...)
    12. Erinnerungsmedaille anläßlich des 20 jährigen Bestehens der Kampfgruppen der Arbeiterklasse Awarded to members of the Kampfgruppen der Arbeiterklasse (KdA) who were serving on 29 September 1973.
    13. Verdienstmedaille der Seeverkehrswirtschaft Instituted: 1965. Awarded: To recognize the efforts of civilian sailors in transportation on the open seas, in 3 classes (Gold, Silver and Bronze). This is the Silver Medal:
    14. I believe it's a stylised proteus flower.
    15. The Order of Pakistan has gone through 3 forms, this is - as Lukasz says - the 3rd class of the first version, awarded from the institution of the order in 1957 up to 1975. See my http://www.medals.org.uk/pakistan/pakistan003.htm for the 2nd and 4th classes. Don't have a picture of the third class, so nice to see it here! The second version was used 1975-86, when it took on the current form.
    16. Pro Merito-dekoraskie Instituted: 1975. Discontinued: 2003. Awarded: To other ranks for outstanding service and devotion to duty. Post-nominal letters: PMD Obverse:
    17. Interesting - they've changed the ribbon as well on this one; whereas with the other orders revised at the same time the ribbon for the former 1st class has been retained as the ribbon of the new single-class order.
    18. Just so - thank you Antonio, both Azerbijani and English versions now squirrelled away!
    19. Being on their mailing list, I got the auction results this morning. It's not on the website yet, though.
