    1. Thought I'd show this. A silver marked nicely Engraved cup from the Officers Mess of SMS Albatross. She was a minelayer, sunk by a Russian patrol having been spotted doing the deed and pursued into neutral waters off Sweden where she was sunk on the 2nd July 1915 with the loss of 28 souls. The remains were subsequently salvaged and broken up in 1921.
    2. Tom, thats the equivalent of porno for Iron Cross fetishists. What a collection.
    3. I started on Third Reich EK's then handled my first silver 1914 EK and fell in love. Suddenly this arcane feudal world of Principalities and strange sounding house orders grabbed me and won't let go. Also WW1 fascinates me as a number of my ancestors fought and died from France through to Mesopotamia. And I am a closet enamel fetishist.
    4. "KO" which is Konigliches Munzampt Ordern. Hope this helps. Glenn.
    5. Very nice. Single court mounts sell like hot cakes these days. It is a great way to show off a nice EK2.
    6. I can appreciate the mini being so expensive. That must be incredibly rare. The quality looks astonishing and to be in a purpose made case too. Personally, I've never seen one.
    7. Lovely personal items, a real feeling of the immediacy of the events in these. Thanks for showing.
    8. They still seem relatively undervalued when you consider the rocketing prices of other more common awards. Although "relatively" is by no means cheap. Lovely set!
    9. That's a peach Sal! Lovely all roud setup. Congratulations. jumping
    10. Thanks Gerd, an ebay bargain believe it or not!
    11. There you go tony, hope that helps. Don't know whether these were made for Godet or just made for sale as patriotic cases.
    12. Case closed. It opens by pressing the 2 spring loaded catches hidden behind the cockades on the sides of the chinscales.
    13. My favourite EK2 is this Godet. Ring stamped G 800 in a stylised Pickelhaube case.
    14. Perhaps it's a primitive body piercing jewellery item for pre 1918 piercing fetishists.
    15. Yes it would certainly work with two loops. Obviously it would only be as secure as the loops themselves but that seems more likely than attaching it through cloth.
    16. That's just the thing Rick, spring pressure between the top arm and the sliding doodad hold it closed, but there would have to be material between this bit when in wear. I suppose this would add to the tightness of the catch but it still seems like the kind of thing an engineering student comes up with for a project, fails and spends the next 5 years woking in a burger bar before sliding into petty crime and being shot by an angry householder during a burglary.
    17. Hi Chet, nice to see you over here. Yes, it is the one from Chris. I count myself lucky managing to get hold of it. I think there was a lot of interest in it. Thanks Gordon. I've got to say it doesn't seem at all practical to me either. I struggle to see how a thick tunic material would fit into the mechanism. Cheers, Glenn.
    18. Oh the inhumanity of it. The very sight of this stuff is making me a little moist. The thought of it going into a landfill makes me want to lie down in a darkened room. Well rescued.
    19. This has to be one of the highest quality crosses I've handled. The finish and manufacture of the frame, mechanism and core are superb. Gordon, you mentioned that there is speculation that these were designed to fit onto Garde Du Corps breastplates. Is this theory based on anything or just a supposition? Cheers, Glenn.
