Soviet Cyrillic Alphabet
JimZ replied to Gerd Becker's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Came across this on another thread and I believe it should be included in here. http://www.andrsib.com/rus/ Might save some time trying to copy and paste cyrillic fonts. For some this may just be the best thing since sliced bread! (And since when was sliced bread the best thing? - can't we possibly think of anything better - George Carlin!) -
I believe the manufacturer Sebastiano Gnutti & Figli an Italian sword manufacturer (amongst other things). For whom the sword may have been manufactured is an entirely different thing.

Well done Christophe. The youngest in Stalin's list of women. I hinted at the age gap between him and Nadezhda to try to throw you on the right track. Ball is in your court. -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrey_Vlasov Its not as though he did not exist. Neither does it seem that the guy is trying to sell the pic (although I did not read every word of it!) Beats me why they would need to fake that pic. Also, whoever faked the pic knows very little about Soviet ODMs.

Oh Crap! The OoV made it easy to pin point the man! Also note other differences such as the shoulder boards, the Marshals' star and the first Suvorov (top left) as well as the second Suvorov (middle left). Rick, would this be a period picture or someone just mucking about? Got a clue? Thierry, where did you come across this picture?

Soviet Soviet & Eastern Block Quiz - 2009
JimZ replied to Christophe's topic in USSR: Soviet: Other Militaria
Stalin's daughter from Nadeshda (who defected to the USA in 1967 and is actually still alive)? Another scandal to the USSR but not so much a secret as her defection caused widespread public outcry. NO. Its not Svetlana. Incidentally when we mentioned Nadeshda earlier I failed to say that the 'romance' between Stalin and her started in 1917. With Stalin being born in 1878 and Nadeshda being born in 1901, that makes him 39 at the time and her 16 years old. Borderline marrying age for the times I'd say. -

Ilja, sorry to lead you on ...... but that was one story worth telling which is why I asked you to relate it. But its not the correct answer as it is not her. Keep searching. But I'll have to confirm back in the morning as I'm off to sleep! See ya. -

.... I like your thinking ..... -
Here it is: "Many officers went into action in early 1914 in full parade gear, but soon bitter combat experiences, not least in the hands of serbian marksmen, forced most of them to drop their cherished distinctions, like sashes or sabres. Soon another Austro-Hungarian peculiarity also disappeared: the traditional field sign, which was either an oak leaf or a fir twig. But it?s place was soon taken over by a new peculiarity: the use of special metal badges on the left side of the cap. They were often connected either to special units or special campaigns or special commanders, and it was not uncommon for a soldier to wear several, plus war souvenirs, like bullets." http://www.landships.freeservers.com/austr...niforms_ww1.htm

Read somewhere that the oak or fir leaves worn on the head gear were actually replaced by metal badges on the caps. I think that says it all. Will try to find the link for you.

Soviet Soviet & Eastern Block Quiz - 2009

Who could she be? What secrets could she hide. If she had secrets she was evidently connected - otherwise the secret would not be worth keeping "secret". Zero effort so far. Zero hints. -
This is Semyon Konstantinovic Timoshenko recipient of the Order of Victory (Breast). He does not look like any other OoV recipient that I can tell! Note how the postition of his HSU, ODMs and Order of Victory are IDENTICAL in every sense of the word not only positioning but also lighting and all. Yet I have never seen a picture of him with hair (if he is the same person portrayed by Thierry) As far as I can tell orders are: HSU Lenin x 3 ORB x 4 20 Yrs RKKA Defence of Caucuses Victory over Germany Leningrad* Budapest* Vienna* OoV *Hard to say from the picture but my best guess... Will someone confirm if it is Timoshenko?

I doubt that both OGPWs (1 and 2) would be 85s Any chance you could get closer shots of the orders on the right of the pic.
