Kevin, Yes, as I thought and now confirmed as I have been able to ID one of the stamps, he got a bit sloppy, it is 32208 which should worry anyone that has recently bought a G v B book of any sort as I don't doubt that it will be a passable stamp when used correctly? Anyone picked one up lately from NW Germany as someone here is a busy beaver. The last book that was 'enhanced' in an earlier thread to 3 brothers was returned to the punter, I only kept the SBs, he tells me in turn that he resold it on a FB militaria page that is popular here at the moment. I pointed out he could loose his good name but he said not likely as the person he bought it from is one of the moderators of that page/site/what ever it is, I shall try and get the proper name of it and the person steering it?

Guys, Not sure if these are of 'historic interest' but it was a shame to see them go in the skip so I saved a handful. I would guess these are from Iraq or Afghanistan, can you imagine the appeal if anyone had stopped to souvenir the Afrikakorp equivalent or any of these signs one sees on pictures of route junctions.

Bernhard, Like I say not a 100% but I would forgive some clerk writing up the wrong abbreviation, that is possible. The other thing that has me perplexed is why put all of those days in and not fake an entry for the close combat badge? But without his previous book to look at and with his EK2 entry which looks ok, he should certainly have qualified for an assault badge, Pz in Bronze would be correct for PzGren. Whatever doubts I have it can't be changed just noted for the future. Such a shame if it 'enhanced' as it would have been fine with one 'kampf tag' and ending at the sports badge? I await Kevins views as I know he has a better eye for these things. It may be useful to try and identify the FP number if it is deemed wrong and that may be possible under the pencil signature on the awards which looks deliberately fudged. If I were to erase that bit the stamp may be legible and recorded for future reference.

Bernhard, Interesting that he has no entry for religion then. I was looking at the awards section and I am not sure about the last two but it would make sense and it was cheep enough to take a risk. I am also not that keen on the mad stamping on the close combat days either, I wonder how often they were reconciled and entered? That aside I think the training insert pages are ok and for that reason alone I had to add it.

Guys, This has been its carrier for a while as visible from the rust pattern. The handle reminds me of the wire cutter handles but it looks like it is properly fitted and not a bodge job. At least there is a clue in the manufacturers logo still visible as Germania Werk Berlin somewhere. Could it be an East German product? The company is still going but has very little about its wartime activity in its history page. Any thoughts as to age? Cheers.

Guys, Quite interesting, his name is French I think? Seems he qualified for Close Combat Clasp in bronze but it wasn't issued. This is a second issue and it is likely he lost everything in the withdrawal from Tunis if Lexicon is correct? Thought the Page 22a etc was quite interesting as I have not seen this before, it looks like an efficient way to record training in the then diverse array of weaponry and skills that were coming on line? Lastly tucked in the back cover was his promotion from Sgt to Lt.

Helmet cover
Jock Auld replied to dante's topic in Germany: Imperial Uniforms, Headwear, Insignia & Personal Equipment
Guys, I just got some material that is of the correct age and could be made into covers no doubt. It is a pile of like jute sacks, not sure what they were used for but the wife recycles them into seat coverings and the likes. My future daughter in law makes/designs knickers for a well known UK company, I may ask her to have a pop and see if she can come up with something similar as an challenge next time she is here. I have rolls of old leather as well so it should be a fun experiment. -
Andreas, I think they are all ok, late war zincers? There are a couple of differences on the hardware but I am sure they are within range of what is found. I don't collect different makers so I don't pay as much attention to the reverse as I should. The L10 is very crisp and a good looking badge the F.O. looks a bit out of proportion when you look at the wreath on the left compared to the right side? Best..

Early Field Phones
Jock Auld replied to 120RIR's topic in Germany: Imperial Uniforms, Headwear, Insignia & Personal Equipment
Very interesting, thanks for sharing it. What do the batteries look like in terms of lables, Is it possible to get them out for a look see? Cheers -
Bernhard, Thanks for the tip if I see that book I will add it to the library. Yes it is a shame about the time lapse and I have most of his feldpost here and there is a point where he is reported as not there return to sender, then missing and ultimately fallen. I doubt that he will have a registered grave as if he were killed in his vehicle it is likely burned out and he too incinerated, I hope at least it was quick. There is reference to the unit which I tracked via the feldpost number and it is listed in lexicon der wehrmacht. Apart from that I have nothing else to hang my hat on. On a plus note his brother survived the war safely in Norway, his post has also survived. I inquired today about any other surviving paperwork but they rebuilt the family house in the 60s and much of their property was cleared out to make way for new items. I was hoping to find something from the sister (Stabshilferine) but no go sadly.

Guys, This young was lad killed quite late in the war. There is not much on his unit (911 Sturmgeschütz Bn) in Lexicon, anyone have any more info on the unit or if he has a registered grave? Kevin I know you are good with the Volksbund? Thanks for any assistance, it would be nice to give the family some more info if at all possible. Cheers

Top entry is invasion of Russia and at some point he moved from 2 Coy 2nd Inf Regt to 2 Coy 3rd Inf Regt within the Totenkopf Div as is borne out by the previous stamps in purple on p32 and his new unit stamp on p33. It then goes on to break down where he fought, starting border fight in Lithuania, next clearing the battle areas by Kueciai and those 3 other places I can't make out. Next assault crossing of the Duna and a second entry for the same operation or perhaps it was a second attempt? Then battles in Lapland 4 places I can't make out or recognise. Assault over the old Russian border lastly Break through of Stalin line and battles by ? in Optoschka? More on page 35...... Jock

Had a look on Lexicon which is normally pretty good. here is all that was close but that unit was destroyed with the collapse of the AXIS in Africa in 43? http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gliederungen/Panzergrenadierregimenter/Gliederung.htm http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gliederungen/Infanterieregimenter/IR382.htm Jock

Fire Insurance enamel sign?
Jock Auld replied to Jock Auld's topic in Non Military Collectibles & Antiques
Uwe, It is 18cm across? I hope it is still ok at that. Thanks for the link. Guys, Its just one of those things that are easy on the eye, I don't think they are particularly valuable over here and I have seen some still attached to houses in the local area but with a Neidersachen slant on the emblem Cheers. Jock. -
Guys, I think this is to indicate membership of a specific fire insurance company? Shame about the damage but it is old. Jock

Early Para cap badge
Jock Auld replied to Jock Auld's topic in Germany: Post 1945: Bundesrepublik & DDR
No, I did not know as post war stuff is not really my thing. I have a few pals that collect it. I will ask them then what the other two are. One of them told me that these were early badges without the flag, that is his belief, I shall break it to him gently! Cheers Jock
