Greetings Herr Oberst! The budgetary price for clothing and personal equipment was regulated in the Bekleidungsordnung (clothing regulations) 1. Teil. This stipulated the contract price and normal peacetime and war period of wear for each individual item of issued equipment to NCOs and private soldiers. Here is the relevant section concerning helmets from the 1901 edition. It can be seen that the various prices for different types of helmet and helmet accoutrements are listed. Each contingent had its own Bekleidungsordnung. This is for Prussia. Regards Glenn

On my latest trip to Berlin I came across an interesting find: An original type-written 5 volume Luftwaffe Rangliste effective as at 1 August 1944. As I only have with me the Oberleutnants and Leutnants volumes (one volume each) and the master index, I am unclear at the moment whether it contains all "combatant" branches or just Flying and Signals troops. Certainly in the case of the Leutnants all first names and dates of birth are given and with the Oberleutnants some dates of birth. It is fully indexed - the fifth volume. Regards Glenn Here is a page of Oberleutnants

I received in the post yesterday the new two volume organisational history of the "German" Field Artillery in WW1 by J?rgen Kraus and Hartwig Busche. This over 1000 page tome details the formation history and more importantly the subordination of all the Field Artillery Units in WW1 as and when they were subordinated to different higher formations. The authors are working on a twenty volume series! They have simultaneously published a one volume history on the infantry. Although it does not give the names of commanders it goes into detail down as far as independent batteries and even details the attachment of batteries from their parent regiments on an ad-hoc basis as required. Full title: Handbuch der Verb?nde und Truppen des deutschen Heeres 1914 - 1918, Teil IX, Feldartillerie, Band 1. u. 2., Wien 2007. ISBN 978-3-902526-15-1 (Both volumes), EUR 94, 90 Regards Glenn

Kaplitz was due South of Budweis in Bohemia. It was of course known as Kaplitz during the period of the A-H Monarchy and is still referred to as such in the 1933 Meyers Handatlas below. Regards Glenn
