    1. Hi everyone, here comes the next researched piece. Order of the great patriotic war 2nd class Nr. 541316. The piece itself is in worn condition with enamel replacements on two arms. Here is a pic:
    2. Look at the details of the apparatus in the middle. In my opinion its definately a L 08 and not an L 07. Beside that the enamel on a L 07 is darker.
    3. Very nice Glory, Dan! I have seen another Duplicate on Dimitri Markov?s website and allways thought it to be weird with the huge stamped numbers. Now that i have seen yours, i know, its nothing unusual And great citation
    4. Thank you very much, Gentlemen. So he was a Medical Officer, most interesting. Andreas, because of the low number, i though, its NOT a Long Service award. Glad i can supply the earliest LS-ORB for your Database though Gerd
    5. I see, but would you mind to post a closeup of the area with the holes? I can?t see, how close they are together. Is there any impressed shape?
    6. Now the citation looks more like a Long Service Citation for an Order of Lenin, is that true? Obverse:
    7. The reverse shows, our receipient (don?t dare to post my translation of the name) also got an Order of Lenin Nr. 26620 and a Medal Victory over Germany.
    8. Today came a pack of research. This was part of it, research to an early Red Banner on suspension. I was fortunate to get the Service Record with this one too. Ok, here is the piece in question:
    9. There were not too much researched pieces posted lately, so i throw this one in, even if its nothing special. A nice and quite early OPW 2nd class with brief research. It came with an archive reference from the russian MoD, which confirmed the delivery of this order to Comrade Soloviev. Here are some excerpts from his citation: "Soloviev, Iosif Egorovich, senior lieutenant, commander 82-mm mortar battery, 1st Rifle Battalion, 276th Rifle Regiment, 77th Rifle Division, born 1913, Russian, drafted by Krivulsky City Military Command, Kurskaya Province, home adress:... ... In the Combats against German agressors in Crimea in the region of the Height Bezymyanniai on 16.04.1944, the mortar company of senior lieutenant Soloviev destroyed: one machine gun emplacement and up to a platoon of enemy troops. ...Within the 17.04-09.05.1944 the company destroyed: 25 machine gun emplacements, 2 mortar batteries and up to a company of enemy troops. The 77th RD fought the 17th German Army on the Taman Peninsula most of 1943 and this award was earned in the liberation of the Crimea in April-May 1944 in the 4th Ukrainian Front. They were awarded the honorary title "Simferopolskikh" for the liberation of Simferopol. Their full title at the end of the war was: "77th Rifle Simferopol Order of the Red Banner, Order of Suvorov in the name of Sergei Ordzhonikidze Division" I hope, you enjoy. best, Gerd
    10. No, its not, but its a general agreement between the researchers. There were several incidents, where the Identification of an awardee increased the price of a piece without any appreciation of the work of the researchers. NEVER!
    11. I understand your point , but i think, its possible to appreciate both aspects of the hobby, the history and research behind this medals and the variations, which were issued over the years. At least i do enjoy both very much and i am happy, when i get to know, who got one of the awards in my collection for what. I am also not too focused on combat awards, i enjoy awards for supplying food,to give an example, as well, as they are also representative for what this Orders or Medals were awarded. Everytime i look at my Screwback-ORB, for example, i see the awardees face and think about the circumstances of the award. But i also like to research the Variation and subvariation of this piece, especially, as it means much more to me than just a piece of metal. Gerd
    12. Dave, i agree completely with you and we are collecting for the same reasons. The main fascination of this hobby are the stories behind this awards and the suffering, the awardees went through to get it. I think, i don?t need to say, that i would never split up a group just to keep a variation, how rare it may be. The story with the group, you sold, is a Bummer. Many people are just too lazy to keep everything together, i guess. Unbelievable! Gerd
