Hi Guys, I have been watching the recent 'rise' in L/64 marked Paras. And there are 'tons' available, which makes me question their authenticity. Now, an L/64 marked P/O has surfaced at the SOS, and I just picked up an L/64 Pilot. I am posting images of the Pilot for opinions. Yea, the rivets are funcky, I know. But keep in mind, it was most likely 1945. Opinions are welcome. Thanks, Mark

Luftwaffe BSW Pilot Badges
mmiller replied to ERIC's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Wehrmacht Medals, Decorations & Awards
Hi Eric, I'm sure someone will provide the exact translation, but I believe it is indicitive of a corporation, or company licensing. Business related. Regards, Mark But was this makermark part of the die, or hand applied? -

I have noticed that some of the very first BSWs with the full spelled out name differ. Some include the 'AG' and some do not? BRUDERSCHNEIDERAGWIEN BRUDERSCHNEIDERWIEN Mark -
Kriegsmarine Destroyer badge

It sure looks like a bad casting, with some type of makermark partially applied. Maybe A/S in a triangle? Look at all the 'pock' marks in the reverse. Regards, Mark -

Heer SS WEARING PARA BADGE
mmiller replied to mmiller's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Wehrmacht Medals, Decorations & Awards
Prosper, My lack of 'reply' in no way reflects my lack of interest. It is just taking me a while to absorb all the info, which is a new endeavour from collecting badges. Or is it. Just based on the fact that these two FSS were from the same jump class and with only one FSS between them, shouldn't they, for all intents and purposes, be the same? Just like a run of a particular style badge, in a specific time frame, shouldn't they show the same bold characteristics. But right off the bat, these do not. I see a different Nummr style entry, different ink on the stamp, different details filled in, (as mentioned) no rune key on the typewriter, weak key character imprint from the ribbon,......etc. And I venture to say there is more you could identify. I'm a novice on these too, but it would take a convincing explanation to side me over. And I for one remember how you've always felt about 'variations'. Am I wrong! Mark -

Prosper, I had pretty much given up on a reply. And low and behold, one of the (probably) handfull of people knowledgable on the subject replied! Thanks. I would think that Docs and Photos of these guys are rare little pieces? Regards, Mark -
Luftwaffe RETIRED PILOT BADGE
mmiller replied to mmiller's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Wehrmacht Medals, Decorations & Awards
Paul, Good question. The Retired Pilot Badges are scarce. The award docs are even more scarce. It seems similar to the Condor Legion Tank badge. There are few original examples and not much period material to go on. The docs for the same..... how many do we know of? 2 or 3! Regards, Mark -

Forget it Jody, The Doc would have to be increased in size so much that the quality would go to crap. Docs for these badges are "rare as hen's teeth". Mark -

Hi Jody, How long is the Article. Any chance you could scan that Doc image? Don't know if it's possible... Would it create any legal problems to post. Appreciate the interest in this badge. I should have picked up the one Jason was selling. I knew I'd regret it later. Regards, Mark -

Marc, More. More. More. Love the format. Regards, Mark -
HI Guys, I haven't done an actual A/B comparison with images, but does the obverse eagle and wreath remotely match GWL? At a quick glimpse, I thought it was a GWL with completely different reverse hardware. And the hardware is a mixture, too. It is not, say, all Juncker, or all BSW..... Pretty damn nice finish, if not authentic. Regards, Mark *** I just checked against a GWL P/O. The dies are different.
