    1. Another recent purchase - any idea on what branch the collar stripe is -
    2. On the open world wide market - what they are going for on Ebay is reasonable. Though I could never bring myself to paying that much for one ($375 on up on Ebay) The price within Hungary is cheaper, but WWII stuff has become very rare.
    3. There is no distiction for the silver sword. It was the method that this particualr manufacturer made them. They are more rare and of a much highrer quality in my opinion.
    4. 1) 10 years of voluntary service to the police forces. 2) Excelent Mason / Builder Badge - second type I believe. 3) Excelent Workers Militia Memeber 4) Excelent MHSZ member badge. I agree the badge looks older than the case - probably mixed up at one point 5) 5 year service badge in the Workers Militia 6) Excelent Youth Socialist Brigade this is the upgraded class from the standard type of badge. 7) Numbered Stahanoviszta badge - nice example for 300% labor increase...
    5. I saw this at the common auction site and the price was less than $20 and it had the case - so it was a PURE impulse buy. When I got it in had I was rather struck smitten by it. I never thought I would ever collect Japanese items, but this is very amazing in quality and detail. I like things in a case and this case though mass produced has quality, secondly the order itself = though I think its the lowest class - still has extreme quality. I dont know anything about Japanese medals, but I think the collection will grow soon. If anyone can look at the images and give me more information (time period manufacute, what they were awarded for, etc...) I would greatly appreciate it.
    6. Thanks Gordon! Here is a smattering of some Interior Minsitry Badges - not complete by any means
    7. This is my last Karhatalom uniform - sadly I almost completely destroyed it. I bought it thinking it was an early Air Force tunic that had been butchered by some collector (I was the one who was going to butcher it!!!) When I got it it had at the time what I thought was police shoulder boards (as they had the Ministry of Interior buttons) and an early Air Force "camp brown" tunic. What was interesting is that the buttons for the enclosure and cuffs are all Rakosi period! Talk about Slop!!! So I tried to find the right "Air Force" color shoulder board without luck =- then I found out that it was actually a Karhatalom tunic... :jumping:
    8. Cant ever get tired of Karhatalom items... This is an early M1957 tunic of a Captain of the Karhatalom. This is seen as the front upper skirt of the tunic has two seams on each side. Around 1959/60 they went to a single piece. The tunic also has a single loop for a medal sewn directly onto the tunic.
    9. Another section of the Interior Ministry was of course the Border Gurads... this is the tunic of a SSGT - enlisted items of the M1957 were hard to find... notic how enlisted uniforms used silver colored buttons (aluminum) while offciers wore gold or brinze buttons...
    10. This is also a Ministry of the Interior uniform of a prison guard the rank should be for Captain - but the stars were removed. The shadow remains of two stars on each board. When mentioning slop this is a pre 1956 uniform (prison guards had an open collar tunic) the shoulder board buttons still retain the Rakosi (pre October 1956) buttons while the buttons for the cuffs and the front closure are all Kadar era post 1956 buttons...
    11. More - this is a police uniform of a Major. From the constriction its about a mid 1970's desing. You can see the difference in the gray / blue color of the uniform from the "camp brown" of the Armed Forces. This particular uniform has the loops to hold the ribbons sewn directly onto the uniform. This was not a common event...
    12. Slop was a common way to put the uniforms of October 1956 to 1958 there was alot going on politically and image is everything.... combined with the fact of having to produce a while national "identity" after December of 1956 is in a production and logistical sense - a nightmare. So slop certainly happened and it happened quite a bit. Thought I would post this again - the lighting was good today so I got some shots of the colleciton and this one fits the thread. Its my most fantastic find from a flea market in Budapest a Lt. Col of the Karhatalomn - early 1960's production as it does not have the double cut on the skirt.
    13. My M57 Border Gurad cap has a star over the tricolor - it does not look like it had anything else. The buttons are the real way to tell the difference. The buttons have the Kadar coat of arms on them while the Armed Forces adopted the rather "neutral" crossed rifles.
    14. Here is my most recent purchase and addition to my collection. It is a nearly mint pre 1915 Field Gray Infantry Captains tunic of the A-H forces. I have been looking for an authentic one of these for probably 10 years now, and this came up from a respectable dealer at a price I could not pass up. There is some slight staining amd a couple of moth nips that are only noticable when you hold it up to the light. The medals unfortunatly are not original to the tunic - but these are the extra ones I had laying around, sadly I realise that I have plenty of Franz Joesef era medals - but not enough of the Carl era... Enjoy - (I sure do...)
    15. Thats really interesting - the AVH / AVO style embilum as it was supposed to be "defunct" after Kadar abolished the AVH during the 1956 Revolution...
    16. I would place it in the $600 to $800 range - the economy of collecting is bad - on a good day it could fetch about $900 at auction if there is enough interest...
    17. I would contact the Hungarian Military Museum in Budapest - SOME reseatch is apparently available, but i never had any luck with it. problem was being a foreigner....
    18. Valsente - from what I can see, it is a overly cleaned example of an original dagger
    19. Vaslente - plesase post more detailed images of the dagger. At this point I think it is probably a reproduction, but more detailed photos are needed to confirm.
