    1. An Italian commemorative medal
    2. I believe that this is a Polish badge? I have a photo of a Hungarian Partisan who was the leader of the Hungarian Political Police (Tompe) who is wearing this badge in 1946.
    3. Just posting some of the commemorative medals created for the veterans of the SCW. These are from the socialist states after the war so I dont know if this the proper place - moderator feel free to move. Sorry for the dodgy photos - these are in a friends collection, I had no tripod and a table that shook like a fault line in SanFransisco... First up - Poland
    4. This is also another award given for more 'valiant' acts of supressing the Revolution. Order of Merit of Hungarian Freedom in Bronze (there was also a silver grade) Of both grades about 2150 were awarded in total.
    5. Yes - this award was created in 1992, but its more of a commemorative order in nature. Rare? Its a perspective as the state mint seems to have dumped the remaining strikes on the market lately. A very rough estimate would be a production run of about 5000 pieces? Is there a serial number on the reverse? Below is a photo of the award given during the communist time for participation in the Hungarian 1956 Revolution (for siding with the Soviets!) about 20,000 of these were awarded. They were given for participation in actual combat against Hungarian Revolutionaries, for those killed in action (who remained loyal to the HUPR at their death - mostly these were AVH or Secret Police), for remaining steadfastly loyal to the communist government (a recipient that I know was awarded hsi for being the school prinipal and not allowing his students to go to Budapest)
    6. From my source (a limited run book on the 1956 awards that was photographed!) This is the Order of Hungarian Freedom Ist Class for Nationals. Similar breast star with black enameled cross is for foreigners.
    7. Hi all - Thanks for the information - from my internet research it looked good to me as well but..., I just needed to know before I take the plunge!
    8. Thanks Paul - What would one normaly expect to pay for one of these?
    9. here is a detail of the order...sorry for the bad pictures
    10. Here is an Order of Glory III class. I am interested in buying it, but know that there are several fakes of the other classes - anyone yet seen a III class?
    11. So - there is a type A and a type B - the enamel and the detail between the leaves of the wreath on the cased one - lets call that one a Type A (as its earlier) is very fine, where as the uncased one Type B (later 1980's probably) has a more rough detail between the leaves and the enamel, though hot, is not as finely finished. Its not only a matter of the jeweler finishing the wreath and the star differently, its all together differnet pieces.
    12. It becomes a little more clearer with the reverse - the cased one 1) thinner top of the wreath 2) finished rivets instead of prongs 3) a thicker suspension ring
    13. But what I was not expecting to find was some variations between this one that I already had without the case! Examine -
    14. "Stolen" by paying with my pocket change from a local flea market on Saturdy - I finally got a cased set of this award. Awarded only 1965 times from 1976 to 1989 it was one of the more rare awards and perhaps one of the most detailed of all Hungarian awards.
    15. Here is an interesting one that I picked up recently - these badges are very common, its finding the uncommon ones. I have no idea what this one is for as it is devoid of year or place / factory. But the interesting part is that the badge is numbered. which is uncommon.
    16. Hi Blitz - I was welcoming Decker to the GMIC in Hungarian and just confirming that he was a Hungarain. He replied that he is a Hungarian and then gave me my best compliment in thinkning that I was too .
    17. I didnt know that they made a single piston style - the only ones I have seen around here are the pancake twins! Either way - they sound great and just ooooozzzzzeee nostalgia. They demand the open road! Still want a Csepel first and a Ural second...
