    1. Here is an odd Meybauer piece. I am used to seeing these in the gold base metal color but not black. Any others out there?
    2. The back. A little surprise. I just realized this thread has been quite for almost a year!
    3. A new one for my little collection. I will post it under a seperate thread but wanted to put it here.
    4. Very nice! Now there are two versions of these. I like yours better as the detail is nice. I guess mine is the early version.
    5. That is it. I was stuck on Prussia so it did not make sense.
    6. I recently found this chain and I am not familiar with this long service award. I am used to seeing these with Roman numerals for the years of service. Is this a rare one or a generic "one size fits all" award. It is nice for being pre 1897.
    7. Paul, The seller said they came from the San Antonio TX area.
    8. I found these recently in the case of an estate seller. He had no idea that they belonged together and was selling them as three different bars all at the same price per bar. It took me a minute to realize it was a three bar set and not a two as they were scattered in the display. I am guessing an Air Force General that served from pre WW2 through Viet Nam. These are not something I would normally buy but this is a nice group. I looked at one place on the net and to buy all of these new and have them mounted would cost me at least $100 more than I payed. I searched for a name and there were no documents or other clues. The seller had no idea of a name. The medals: #1) Air Force Distinguished Service Medal #2) Legion of Merit #3) Distinguished Flying Cross #4) Air Medal #5) Purple Heart #6) American Defense Medal #7) American Campaign Medal #8) European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal #9) WW2 Victory Medal #10) WW2 Army Occupation Medal #11) National Defense Service Medal #12) Korean Service Medal #13) Vietnam Service Medal #14) Air Force Distinguished Service Order 1st Class – South Vietnam #15) United Nations Korean Service Medal #16) Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal
    9. "in hand" - Did you fly over to pick it up? To the best of my knowledge the OZL is an officer level award. There was the merit cross but the ribbon was different so this bar has always been an OZL. You have the old style ribbon for the OZL which are not so easy to find and what made me feel that this was a totaly legit ribbon bar. I have one around here to a later General that Rick named for me with the same type. As you know the Karl-Friedrich Verdienstmedaille on the war ribbon is a nice find for your collection and the reason that I considered buying this bar.
    10. I thought about this some more as orginally I was thinking the bar and the photo were two different people based on the medals but a more logical answer is that they are the same person and when the medals were added a REO was put in place of a Prussian General Honor medal. This would make the ribbons match the medals in the photos and I should have thought of this first.
    11. I looked at this one hard on Friday but I could not get past the feeling that this is an old ribbon bar that has had medals added to it. Most Baden bars I have seen have hooks for the medals and I see no evidence of any here. Also, there is red stiching around the hinge which makes me think there was a red backing that was removed before the current medals were attached and then this new backing was added. No telling when this was done and everything looks to be original. The picture shows a medal that is not on the bar in my opinion. Places 3 & 4 are both large medals that appear to be on striped ribbons. I would say position 3 is the Baden Military Merit and #4 looks like it is the same size and not the Century medal. Maybe more detail will be available when you can examine the actual photo.
    12. Well, it's back and only $18,500! Read the description - if it does not sell it at this cheap price she will again split it up. http://cgi.ebay.com/WWI-WWII-GERMAN-OFFICER-SERVICE-MEDAL-BAR-SAXONY_W0QQitemZ320501647046QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4a9f6306c6
    13. Tom, Nice bar. I prefer to buy bars without the Hindenburg on them but I would buy this one as it is an all cross bar and to go 7 places without a gong is rare! I like this kind of bar.
    14. Thanks guys - I will sleep better. Thanks to Stogieman for taking a sneak peek at this before I had it shipped. I am glad there are some good deals to be had in the US still. It has been a good two months and now I am broke! If you are going to sell something nice, please hold on to it for a while so I have a chance.
    15. Final for tonight. If you need to see something specific let me know.
    16. Here is an unmarked Meybauer. I have no experience with this maker and would appreciate it if anyone that sees a problem posts about it. I have a return period so I will not be out anything. I feel good about this badge but a second opinion will help me sleep. Thanks, Chet
    17. Stogie, I have looked around a bit and while I bet you are right I can not find a bar to prove it. I know that the black stripe was common and I have seen a few white stripes but no yellows. Anyhow, it is funny how that thing sneaks up on you. I did not notice it until I was editing my photos :speechless:
    18. Rick, I think the blue is fine and that cross has been there for over 100 years. Look at the back and you can see where the ribbon was sewn so that a yellow edge stripe does not show. It took me a while to notice it in hand. The EK is a Godet if I read the article correctly and very nice in detail!
    19. I also find it interesting that a different ribbon was used on the LS medal. I would think this would have been a common enough ribbon that a replacement would not have been necessary.
