As most of you know I love medal bars. I often find them with no medals or missing medals and I try to reconstruct them. No big upgrades - just putting history back as it should be. It gives me a sense of fullfilment to restore a piece of history. I found one that has a ribbon (the second one) I have not seen before. I posted it on the other forum and someone provided a link to ribbons that showed it as a Prussian Honor medal. Does anyone have any examples of what the medal looks like. If you want me to I can go and find the link to ribbon page as I may have the name wrong but it was along those lines. Also, do you think there should be a little birdie on the first ribbon?

I was playing with the collection tonight and I took photos of the new items. Here is one of them. I was very interested in the SW 68 on the packet due to the fact that most TR badges marked with the SW68 are considered fake. I agree with this but still found it interesting. Another one for my cased / packeted collection.

Question on a WW1 trio.
CRBeery replied to CRBeery's topic in Great Britain: Orders, Gallantry, Campaign Medals
I posted this on Aerodrome and two people have replied. I knew I was not lucky enough to get a pilot but an observer is almost as good to me considering I just bought this as a trio to an officer. I am very happy with my new group. Thanks for all of your help. Frank_Olynyk Forum Ace -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- He was an observer with 15 Squadron in 1916. He and his pilot (Capt. A B Adams) filed three combat reports for indecisive combats, while flying the BE 2c. Frank. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- He is also mentioned in RFC Communique No 45 where he is listed as having been wounded in action on 28 July 1916. Great information guys! Sorry it has taken this long for pictures but I was a little road weary. Hope these are OK. -
Question on a WW1 trio.
CRBeery replied to CRBeery's topic in Great Britain: Orders, Gallantry, Campaign Medals
Well, I have to admit that Royal Flying Corps did come to mind but I am not ever that lucky. Wouldn't it be funny if my first pilot group was British! I will get photos and try the link from Rick over the weekend. THANKS!!! -
Hello, I collect Imperial German items mostly but recently I have wanted to add a WW1 trio to my collection to balance things out. I did buy one single medal and figured out how to look some information on the original recipient. That medal had a 5 digit number, a name, and an abbreviated name for his unit?? This week I was on the road and I found a trio and I am totally lost as to what or who this man was. I will list what the medals have on them and if you can help I would greatly appreciate it. 1914-1915 star LIEUT. G. K. G. KERR. SHROPS. L. I. War medal (I am not sure of the real name) LIEUT. G. K. G. KERR. R.F.C. Victory medal LIEUT. G. K. G. KERR. R.F.C. I know the rank and name but I am lost as to the rest. I will post pictures when I get a little more time as they are on an interesting display from Harrods - sorry I am just worn out from the drive around Lake Erie. Thanks, CRBeery

I bought this one and I am still not sure why. It does have a ton of character and maybe I felt sorry for it like it was the last kid to get picked for a team. The owner was proud of his medals and very cheap. I see three versions of the bar. First is the post war 1920's bar - BMVK3 through the 9 year long service. Did he have to purchase the two vet medals or just apply for them? Second, he took half of the long service ribbon off to add the fire medal. I think it is glued on! Finally he simply made the two place extention for his post 1934 medals. Interesting to see the timeline of medals and how the regulations were ignored. Sal, are you out there or off on another vacation? I do not know if the BMVK3 had swords orginally or not. I think you have one cased - would you post a picture please? The ribbon seems like it is for the swords version and that would certainly make sense so either my swords fell off or someone did me a favor and switched to this cross. If any of you have a bar that you think is ugly post it here!!

EK 1914 New engraved WW1 EK1.
CRBeery replied to CRBeery's topic in Germany: All Eras: The Iron Cross
Gentlemen, Thank you all for your input. I really do appreciate ALL views. I am keeping the grouping in my collection. I am happy with the cross and to be honest, if I add $0 for the engraving I have still purchased the group at a good price for what dealers want for things today. Maybe not the best way to judge but for now I am happy. I will post the other items soon in the Imperial section for all of you. @Brian - your killing me! Please don't do it! Thanks, Chet -
EK 1914 New engraved WW1 EK1.
CRBeery replied to CRBeery's topic in Germany: All Eras: The Iron Cross
I have to admit that I am having trouble getting the patina to show in the engraving. The engraving is darker than it looks in the photos. I do see a difference as Rich pointed out between the 800 and the rest. I looked at some engraved pieces on WAF and found another engraved cross with the 800 in the middle of the engraving and it had a similar amount on patina to this one in both respects. On my cross the thin, shallow lines are black with patina as I think they should be. The deeper, wider areas have less patina but seem to have green stuff in them like on early SA dagger hangers where the leather touches. Oxidation of the nickel in the silver??? It seems like the patina is creeping down into the engraving. Does anyone know if this is normal? Is this style of engraving correct to the period? It seems like it is. Please do not see this as me defending a piece that may have been engraved at a later date. I am trying to learn about this to make an informed choice. I can return the group if this piece has been enhanced. There is an I/415 on the cross. I went through the documents including research from McDivitt and this is not mentioned. Could this be a key to this? If it is good information then some homework was done at the very least. If it is bad then it shoots this piece down. Thank you for listening to me and providing any help.
