    1. Hello all, I am currently thinking of selling the following 3 badges. If no-one flags up any concerns, they will end up in the sale room. A 1938 RKKA snipers badge, with a replacement screwplate, a Voroshilov marksmen badge, and an excellent sniper's badge (a wartime version).
    2. A belated acknowledgement from myself! Please all read Dzerzhinsky's prison letters and diary (available from amazon etc.) to get some insight into this man.
    3. For excellent service in the ministry of internal affairs of the Russian Federation.
    4. I think this thread may have the highest sarcasm percentage of any forum. The best way is to get things fed ex'd and air mailed out. Take it through customs and you take your chances..
    5. Absolutely! I work 12 hours a day (or night) in a hospital, and we rarely even get our breaks, whilst overtime was cancelled 4 years ago. I think we have a lot to learn from (the best elements) of the former socialist nations.
    6. 'Marx' is holding a 'book' claiming to be Capital vol4. the Stalin isn't bad but not as good as Robert Duvall in the tv movie!
    7. The Osprey Red Army of the Russian Civil War boopk is full of examples like this of Shoulder board insignia being canibalised and supplemented to create both cap and sleeve insignia. Essentially as long as you didn't wear an Imperial cockade and pogoni you could wear almost anything!
    8. Very good post Ed. (I wonder why the Chinese never made a Mao order..)
    9. Sorry Ed. However 'leaders of Socialism' is a broad term. (And certainly a contentious one).
    10. I think Stalin was the firts person who united the concept of Marxism Leninism as a theoretical and practical concept. Lenin wouldn't have used the term Leninism! (The same is true of Stalin 'Stalinism'). People like Enver Hoxha, Kim il Sung and even Mao still talked of Marxism Leninism following the definitions laid out by Stalin in his book 'Problems of Leninism'. So I think that the list ought to be Marx, Engels, and Lenin. With significant contributions from Stalin et al! but I think we digress... Oh and as a thought is there a Chinese Order of Mao?
    11. Very, very nice. great to get something like that in the post! Have you asked Elvis to translate for you?
    12. In that case only Marx and Engels, the rest are really followers
    13. What were these awarded for? As in what was the eligibility criteria. They're interesting medals, and I particularly like the Leningrad one!
    14. Hunyadi, I just had a look at mine and it's different! Type 2 variation 1 perhaps
    15. I think you'd be better off asking in one of the German sections. This area is about the PSR of Albania!
    16. It looks good from the pictures. If it's expensive you ought to black light the enamel, but it looks good, but there are far more knowledgeable people than me here!
    17. The later the badge the less likely it is to be a fake. Check CollectRussia.com for a good selection of Deputy badges. Ebay is good too, but seller ID's are easily changes if they're selling 'dodgy' items. That said I would be very surprised if people were faking late Soviet Georgian badges. * As a point regional Soviets are cheaper (in quality and price) compared to Supreme Soviet ones *
    18. Thanks Richie, that's what I was alking about. Although the collar spools are slightly angled, and cuff ones are 'squared off'.
    19. Not quite NKVD used 'coils' and not bars I can add period pictures if need be.
    20. Hi Kev, When I said based on I meant inspired by as opposed to built on! You're right the SPR ones are better but the influence is clear.
    21. Kev the Private Ryan Tigers were based on the T34 mock ups created for the Clint Eastwood film 'Kelly's Heroes'. It was agreed that these were the closest match to a Tiger available on a sensible budget.
    22. Here is the statue of Felix Dzerzhinsky in Minsk Belarus by the State Border Troops commitee headquaters. A copy of the Moscow statue, but unveiled in 2006! ie. a brand new Dzerzhinsky!
    23. Interesting question Sergey. I'm worried that this may lead to s political discussion, which is rarely a good thing on the internet! However I think that most here collect out of respect for the people and what they achieved. To quote Alexander Lukashenko "The Soviet Union, despite all mistakes and blunders of its leaders was the source of hope and support for many states and peoples". And for me, that just about sums it up.
