I am seeking details on the wartime career of Titular Generalmajor Franz von Veith. As an Oberst he was the Kmdt. k.k. Landwehr Infantry Regiment Nr. 28 (May 1912 - Jul 1914). The 1917 Landwehr Rangliste has him listed as Oberst d.R., however he is not listed in the 1918 k.k. Landwehr Rangliste. Antonio Schmidt-Brentano’s publication (page 242) has him promoted to Titular Generalmajor on 17 November 1917. Regards, Ian

It would appear that what is listed in the Year book is nor quite correct. I had another look at the photo of your great grandfather and the last medal he is wearing is the 1912-1913 Mobilisation Cross (1st one in your photo) and the 3rd medal is the so called Kreigsmedaille originally issued in 1873, but was often worn by those who were in the Armed forces at the outbreak of the Great War.

WJT, According to the 1918 Year book your Great Grandfather was warded the following: Franz Josef Order - Ritter with war decoration Jubilee medal Jubilee cross

The Year book list all Medical Officers and Apothecaries of the Common (K.u.K.), K.K. Landwehr and the Honved. Current rank, year promoted, orders and medals awarded and their current duty station. The Year book was produced from about 1866 through to 1918. Copies are difficult to locate. As a former sailor and submariner I just love the photos of your grandfather. Thanks for sharing. W Your great grandfather was listed as a Stabsapotheker (Major equivalent) and s shown in the photo. Promoted 1 May 1916. He was last assigned to Garisonspital No. 25 in Sarajevo. Information from 'Jahrbuch fur die Militarartze 1918'. The photo of Hanns Hacker is incredible. Long service NCO. Regards, Ian

Can anyone shed some light on the late wartime career of Feldmarschalleutnant Georg Hefelle von Nagykárolyfalva. I have him listed as Kmdt. 72 ID in mid to late 1916, but then he drops off the radar. I know that he was retired 01 JAN 1919. Regards, Ian

Christian, Thank you for pointing out that it is Ing. Hans Lisberg or Hans Lieberg. I will search through he Rangliste/Schematismus that i have and see if I can locate him. I purchased the card off ebay.de and not from Richard Dawkins, but the card is identical to the one Richard was selling. So he either signed two photos or I have bought the card that Richard Dawkins had previously sold. Either way I am pleased to own it. Regards, Ian

I have struggled to decided where to place this request for so if I have placed it in the wrong section please feel free to move it to where you consider it is best located. I'm searching for the birthplace and (if possible) also the place and date of death for Offizierstellvertreter HERMANN REINHARDT, born on 22.9.1887, who during the Great War as an Offiziersstellveretreter commanded the Sturm-Abteilung in the 1st Marine Infantry Regiment in the Marinekorps Flandern on the Western front. After the war he fought against the Communists with the Marine-Brigade Erhardt, where he commanded (as Leutnant) the so-called Offizierssturmkompagnie. He retired from the military in 1920 with a honorary rank of Oberleutnant and continued his career in the law enforcement in the Hamburg area. He is listed as "Stabsofficier bei der Polizei" at the beginning of World War II. Any further details about him and his career are also very welcome. His name is mentioned a couple of times in General Ramcke's memoirs, because they served in the same regiment and they were also the only NCOs who were decorated with that highly prestigious Bavarian decoration whose name has slipped my mind right now. Kriegsmarine Officer - Franz Dueller (14 May 1890– 08 May 1945) I am hoping that someone with a 1944 or maybe even a 1945 Kriegmarine rankliste would be kind enough to check and see if Franz Dueller is listed please. It is reported that Franz Dueller served as an officer in the naval courier service, shuttling between Danzig, Saloniki, Rostock and Odessa during the war. He was Oberstabsmaschinenwärter in the Austro-Hungarian Kriegsmarine and was awarded the Gold Bravery for his actions during the sinking of SMS Szent Istvan in 1918 Regards, Ian

Attached is a photo of a Generalmajor wearing what appears to be a Tiroler Matrikelzeichen (second type issued post 1900), as well as an Order of the Iron Crown 2nd Class (with kriegs decoration), Order of Leopold (knight), 2 Signum Laudis (silver and bronze) and an EK1 and EK 2. You will notice that there is room for about twice as many medals as he is wearing. The name accompanying the photo appears to be ‘Muhr’. I can not locate a Generalmajor, Feldmarschalleutnant or even a General Muhr in any of my Rangliste. I have tried to identify him by the Tiroler Matrikelzeichen, but so far no luck Can any one explain to me what the Tiroler Matrikelzeichen would have been awarded for please (there can not have been that many awarded) and does any one recognise the Generalmajor? I wish everyone on the forum a Happy and Prosperous 2016.

I have been lucky enough to identify the mystery Leutnant. It is Oberleutnant (1 Nov 17) Dr. Jr Friedrich KARGL from k.k. Landesschützenregiment 'Innichen' Nr. III. Thanks to Andy for putting me on the right path.
