Here's my only LS doc, from 1881. I was surprised that it was hand written. Hardly the sort of thing that would be issued im Feld.

An interesting mount, Christian I've never seen one like it. Is it marked? Here's one from Bavaria with a safety pin type back.

I believe the apparent difference in stitching is dues to the upper edge being loose when the other was stitched, so the lower edge was stitched from the back, er, front, er, ... you know what I mean.

Aaargh Youze guys peaked! This shot's all I've got time for today, but I'll be back with more tomorrow.

Now the kicker. The indentation in the velvet is anything but medal shaped. If anything, it looks like it was made for some kind of brooch. It's centered both ways, roughly 1/3 in from each side. Maybe, if eveyone's really, really nice to me, i'll show y'all what came in it

The interior of the top is lined with silk. The bottom dark maroon velvet. It has the paper "collar typical of medal cases.

There are no maker's marks. The hinge is a separate piece of the same leather on the outside and 2 pieces of silk tape on the inside.

This case just arrived today. It measures 3 5/8 in. by 5 3/8 in. and is covered in a dark reddish brown morocco leather. The hook is 1870-ish and cast, not stamped.

Robin, could you post some more scans of your goblet? Maybe it's the Grateful Dead connection, but I've got a thing for skulls too.

Not likely, but a 3-place with EKII, Frontk?mpfer, and NOK is possible. I had a stickpin with that group, but in a weak moment let it slip away

This particular example is pre-1900 and a little longer (19 in./48.26 cm.) than the WWI and later issue models. The spine bears an inscription, but my knowledge of Devanagari being not much better than my knowledge of High Martian, I have no idea what it says, other than the numerals 3, 2, and 4. Any help with translation would be appreciated. Chris, old Bean, do you still have that dispatch from WWI you posted on WAF a while back?
