    1. What a great picture of Walter Pelkmann. I can only wonder, if he received any other WW I decorations besides EK I and Kriegsverdienstkreuz (Braunschweig)? The Kriegsverdienstkreuz would get two classes March 1918. Would Pelkmanns awards then be I. or II. class? Probably 2nd class, because he didn't serve on the front?! Does someone know if he was ill? He died 1919 in Berlin. I don't know his wife's name, but he had one, as the list of the "Offizierswitwenkasse" shows.
    2. I have all decorations up to the Rangliste 1914, if anyone could help me out with WW I decorations I would be thankful. I have of course EK I (1914) and Pour le Mérite, but what else? Here a surely well-known pre-war picture:
    3. I am putting together all awards of Carl/Karl Eduard von Hänisch, does anyone have his promotion dates to Fahnenjunker and Fähnrich? He entered 1847 and was commissioned Sekondeleutnant 18 December 1849. Maybe he started as Einjährig- or Dreijährig-Freiwilliger? Thanks!
    4. ... and let us not forget the thousands of, formerly Jewish, Officers who had (themselves or their parents) converted to Christianity.
    5. Yes, sitting on the stairs is a young Hermann Göring! The Hamburger Cigarren Handels AG (HACIFA) had merged with his fathers, now brothers L.Wolff Cigarrenfabriken. As an AG the company still existed 1945 (see first picture) and 1954, around 1960 it became the HACIFA Hamburger Cigarren Handels G.m.b.H., which still existed 1965 (see second picture).
    6. Thank you so much for your explanations, I just learned a lot!!!
    7. 1) EK II 2) Ehrenkreuz für Frontkäampfer 3) Kriegserinnerungsmedaille (Österreich) mit Schwertern 4) Flandernkreuz 5) ? 6) Baltenkreuz 7) ? 8 ) Deutschritter-Kreuz, 2nd class with swords, although he had the grand cross with star 9) ? 10) ? 11) ?
    8. No, Ian, not at all. WP knows hardly anything, not even the date he entered service. But thanks anyway!
    9. If someone has his promotion dates, I would be thankful! What is the medal Nr. 5 after the Flandernkreuz (Nr. 4)? Nr. 3 seems to be the Kriegserinnerungsmedaille (Österreich) mit Schwertern?
    10. What a nice picture! Can anyone identify all decorations? I read, he was not reactivated, so is this a reserve uniform? Also this is a Heeresuniform, but I read somewhere, he was possibly in the Luftwaffe? Can anyone clarify this? Thank you!
    11. Did you ever get a complete list? To the right of the Südwest-Afrika Denkmünze I can see the Kolonial-Denkmünze.
    12. Yes, you are right, it really does ... he became Leutnant 1913, but I doubt he received this order ... especially not with swords. It somehow looks overdimensional, I have never seen anything like it. Maybe a sort of private decoration?
    13. Gentlemen, what exactly is Roßbach wearing around his neck??? Did he only receive EK II and I in the war or more?
    14. Chuck, thanks for the information on Paul Bäumer, Julius Buckler, Otto Könnecke, Fritz Rumey und Karl Thom ... do you have more decortions for Thom? Maybe promotion dates? Was he reactivated in WW II? Thanks!
    15. Maybe also interesting: six soldiers (as far as I know) received the GMMC in WW I and the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes in WW II: Wilhelm Hemmer, Richard Kotz, Hermann-Bernhard Ramcke, Fritz Stürtz (RdEK posthum), Gustav Wagner, and Franz-Josef Welzel. Anymore names? I would love to know. I also read, that many/all NCOs with the GMMC were promoted to Leutnant der Landwehr on Tannenbergtag in August 1939?!
    16. What is the second medal from the right? Is the fourth medal from the right the China-Denkmünze in Stahl? Thanks!
    17. I read the Wikipedia article on Reinhard Scheer, and it has grand crosses like Großkreuz des Albrechts-Ordens, Großkreuz des Greifenordens, Großkreuz des Bayerischen Militärverdienstordens and Großkreuz des Hausordens Albrechts des Bären, but also Kronenorden I. Klasse mit Schwertern and ROA-Großkreuz (I can only identify 1st class). They refer to the Rangliste 1918, so I checked (also 1916), and I do not see these. Maybe someone can help. Here is what I have, additions and corrections, as always, very welcome: Preußischer Kronenorden, IV. 18. Thank you, Gentlemen! Daniel, do you happen to know, if von Richthofen received the swords to his Kronenorden, II. Klasse. Maybe even a wartime 1st class?
