    7. Hi all This article was in the October 18, 2007 issue of 'Navy News' :- 'A review into Defence honours, awards and commendation policies has been announced and your views are being sought. The changing nature of warfare and the high operational tempo has meant that current recognition methods may not be meeting contemporary Defence and community expectations. As a result, the Chiefs of Service Committee (COSC) has agreed that it is time to look at how service, both uniformed and civilian, is recognised. There will be wide consultation within Defence and also with appropriate external agenices, groups and idividuals. Submissions are welcome from all interested parties, particularly from current serving members of the Australian Defence Force. Information about the review, including how to provide submissions via a web based form, can be found on the Defence Honours & awards website: www.defence.gov.au/medals The closing date for submissions is Friday November 16. Once completed, the final report will be presented to COSC in February 2008 for it's consideration. The results of the review will be promulgated after this time.' Bob
    8. Hi Jon Nice photo, I think you will find that it was taken during the invasion of Greece. Bob
    9. Yes I agree Rick he does look like a cartoon depiction of a Hollywood Nazi with those tabs, and according to the Axis History forum they are backed in red. This list of KVK Luftwaffe winners (with Rudel mentioned) is from that forum also :- Bob LUFTWAFFE, Generale: Generalmajor Carl-August Freiherr von Gablenz 04.09.1942 mS (posthum) Generaloberst G?nter R?del 09.11.1942 mS General der Flieger Ludwig Wolff 27.09.1943 mS General der Flieger Bernhard K?hl 28.10.1943 mS Generalleutnant Dipl.-Ing. 10. No comments Naxos!, .... let me start, ..... nice straps, including a nice later war example! Best wishes and thanks for sharing the images with us, Cheers Bob
    11. Hi Paul, I would suggest Francois, Jos or Gene way before you get to me! (but thanks mate ). Hope your work load is allowing a bit of collecting as well! Best wishes Bob
    12. Probably a Janke reproduction, the officer chin cords are way too long as well...... Bob
    13. Nice piece with great history, is that a field made strap??? no tongue to the strap, looks like it was meant to be sewn to the tunic, strange looking sewing to the reverse too, great looking strap from the front, I am guessing that this one isn't an issue strap and made up for him either in the field or an in country tailor perhaps. (The guy to ask with this one is John Hodgin in the US). Bob
    14. Hi Ian I was asked to take a peek at this thread too, and having had a look at your two caps, I would suggest taking them back to where they came from for a refund asap, the M43 cap isn't an issue cap, and the only thing I could suggest is that it may be perhaps something made in the field or in another country, problem is that you have to convince other collectors of that too, and I think you would struggle, interior is not like anything I would like to see in a real officer M43 cap, the piping is poorly applied, and the whole shape if it is wrong, the insignia does look ok though...(I wouldn't be happy with that cap at all). Your 2nd cap, the whole thing to me looks bad, (apart from wreath and cockade) I would suggest losing both of these caps to wherever you got them from. Eagle looks cast to me, cap top is definitely not of the period, and the lower portion is not what I would want to see either, sorry to be on the negative side, but nicer examples of both exist and are obtainable, but officer M43 caps for the Luftwaffe are getting very hard to find now, and a good example of a white top is starting to become a challenge too, but can still be tracked down with the better dealers. Sorry for the negativity, but these 2 caps don't thrill me at all, sorry mate! Bob
    15. I look forward to seeing your end result with the Bismark.... Best wishes Bob
    16. Here is a reasonable photo of the Raeme Corps badge, (I found it on the internet), the collar badges are the same, but face inwards, and they are slightly smaller than the cap badge. Bob
    17. Gordon, I love those models, real beauties, I would have liked to have been around when they were talking about throwing that one out the door, I am sure I could have found a way to get it home.... We have just had a fortnightly magazine and model parts offer through the local newsagents here (Oz) to build a 1:200 scale model of the Bismark (Hachette), which looks great in the photos shown in volume 1, very tempting, but I had a quick look on the internet at the model, which has already been released in Germany and the UK, and I think by about issue 15 or so I would be stomping all over it and needing a good bottle of something to calm down again, but I am sure the model guys would be able to do a great job with it. Thanks for taking the time to post the photos Gordon, greatly appreciated at this end, oh yeah as one who once dabbled in KM headgear collecting, I am currently waiting on your book to arrive, could push me back over the edge again..... Best wishes Bob
    18. Hi Gerben, I will jump in, can't say that this one melts my butter, I would personally pass on it if I was you, it does have a rather nice shape I guess, but that is as far as I will go, not crazy about the Waffenfarbe, Rosa is a red-pink colour, I know the colour does fade out to a lighter pink, but I don't think you will find any fading under the edges of this one, I don't like the air vents, nor the lining, or.... dang, how about I stick with what I started with, and say it would be best to pass on this example, but I am just expressing my opinion, others may defend it.... (sorry mate) Bob
