    1. Interesting that they chose the standard WWII star, if the image is correct does that mean they will be using King George VI Cypher and crown?, If so I assume that ERII must have approved, that being said, It's about time those guys got some real recognition
    2. Just had another look, maybe they were having a bad, bad hair day when they designed that one regards
    3. The Lady seems to be dressed similarly to these two, The images come from pre-WWI actual original colour slides in which case I would put a bet on your image being from somewhere in Imperial Russia. There is a web-site (Already posted on GMIC) which has a few of these original slides shown, my images cames from a completely different site and contained Hundreds!! regards
    4. Hallo Deruelle, just been looking through this thread and spotted the attached, I hope you don't mind but I attach my colourised version of the same image. regards Alex K
    5. Hi Brian a well researched history! as a native "Stokey" all the places etc you mention are home from home, well done regards Alex K
    6. Just for interest, Scans from a book I bought many years ago on collecting militaria, The Book " Military Collectibles an international directory of twentieth-century militaria" By Joe Lyndhurst published by Salamader Books 1983, long out of print now I suspect, but has numerous pages dedicated to Sweetheart brooches, you may find interesting. regards Alex
    7. Three images of Alfons Rebane, the first as a lieutenant in the Eastonian army, the other two in the wehrmacht
    8. Serbia produced some of the nicest pre-communist decorations IMHO
    9. Albert Forster
    10. I've posted this before on other threads, but out of all the many ODM's I have from many nations including the "Blingy" gold and enamelled ones that sparkle, this EKI is the closest to my heart, just simple and quality, quite convexed (Domed) and in mint condition
    11. Unfortunately, the seller decides the price on it's desirability
    12. Thanks for the additional info regards Alex
    13. I do believe and I stand to be corrected that in the UK it is illegal to wear ODM's that you're not entitled to, it just seems that no-one bothers here!!
    14. Unfortunately my initial reaction is and still remains the same, people without brains/sense of history pick these things up as mere costume jewellery, wear them and then throw them in a drawer. (Money being no object), after a while a quick cleanout by someone who knows no better throws in the trash can, I honestly believe it has happpened over many many years with Hollywood bigshots, once again a real loss to those who DO appreciate these things. regards
    15. Well, That's Hollywood and people with more money than sense, or sense of history, I suspect they all ended up in the trashcan eventually, when they had a clearout as useless trinkets, (One man's meat is another man's poison) shame really
    16. Hi I'm thinking of adding this to my collection, to finish of my Hanseatic trio, does anyone see any alarm bells, all help appreciated regards Alex just a thought what sort of price now, my other two were bought over 20 years ago!
    17. For those with money to burn possibly? but if you want the best..... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-YARD-36-INCHES-OF-ORIGINAL-MINT-CONDITION-WW1-SILK-VICTORY-MEDAL-RIBBON-/330871727272?pt=UK_Collectables_Militaria_LE&hash=item4d097de4a8 If my maths is correct 1.08GBP per inch
    18. Hi all, another unknown uniform but I suspect Estonian, can anyone identify the medals badges on his uniform? any help appreciated regards Alex K
    19. Might be worth asking forum members, I personally have many ODM's from most European nations where I have obtained modern replacements where available, but would prefer originals, Alex K
    20. Anything can be done....but at a price, are we willing to pay
    21. I have actually sent them an e-mail enquiry to see if they do or they are in a position to manufacture "Original watered silk" ribbons for WWI British medals. I'll wait and see if I get a response. regards
    22. I personally agree, it's a case of finding a manufacturer willing to set the whole manufacturing process, with no guarantee of financial reward for their investment. One manufacturer I believe is "Toye Kenning Spencer" who have been producing uniforms, ribbons for over 300 years, perhaps they could provide an answer as to the Viability regards
