    1. "Is the core non-magnetic? I'll bet it is. . ." The core on mine is. (Non-magnetic, that is.)
    2. My magnetic bronze DRL (mit Hakenkreuz) is by "Wernstein Jena" and weighs 16.25 g.
    3. I have five DRA/DRLs. Only the bronze DRL (with swastika) is magnetic.
    4. Here's a side view of the EK and KVK hinges which better shows the difference between them.
    5. And here is the hinge on one of the KVKs. Like the KVK catches, it is mounted on the cross with a plate. And again, all of my Deumer KVKs have this feature. The hinges themselves are different as well.
    6. Here's the hinge on the "11" EK 1. Like the EK catch, it is attached directly to the cross, without a mounting plate.
    7. The catch on this Deumer KVK is first attached to a plate before being attach to the cross. All of the Deumer KVKs that I own -- five or six -- have this feature.
    8. But I feel that there are more differences than similarities. Here's the catch on the "11" EK. It's attached directly to the back of the cross.
    9. Here's a comparison of the hardware on an "11" marked Grossmann EK 1 and two Deumer KVKs. At first glance they all appear very similar.
    10. "They represent a last effort to show respect to their retired warriors. I like them a lot." Ditto.
    11. I have a few Deumer KVK 1s with the type of pin you are talking about. Let me take a look at them....
    12. Maybe instead of "maker" the terms "provider" or "distributor" are more apt.
    13. Oh, it's very possible that the "11s" were manufactured by Deumer. I guess it's a matter of terminology. Is the maker of the award the company who actually made it? Or is it the company who put their mark on it?
    14. "But please have a look at the frame and at the core....you see the tool markings at the inner, lower 9 o'clock corner? That is looking like two dots?" Can you highlight this for me? Also, don't forget that Godet and Zimmermann EKs are virtually identical. Identical crosses (much more identical than Grossmann/Deumers, which have different pins, in fact), but different makers.
    15. Bill, I have one exactly like it that I got from Detlev. He attributed it to B. H. Mayer, and I tend to agree with him.
    16. Can anyone offer a more substantive or specific reason why these EKs are not good other than simply saying that they are "crap"?
    17. Could you clarify your evaluation a bit, Tom? I have one of these EKs -- for a long time it's been in the "maybe" catagory -- and I'd love to have some concrete info that would put it in the "Fakes" box forever, if that's where it truly belongs. Thanks!
