    2. Chris, I did just make a double check on that award document and the stamp is really stamped on it ! (part of the stamp ink did soak in to the back of the document) and not preprinted. Best regards Eric-Jan

    8. Gentlemen, Thank you for your kind replies. Concerning his MIA and not being listed on the Volksbund website. I do know that the Volksbund website is far from complete. From the WASt in Berlin I did receive information, including : "Andere Erkenntnisse über seinen Verbleib besitzen wir nicht. Herr Fischer ist durch Gerichtsbeschluß im Jahre 1974 für tot erklärt worden" "Other evidence of his whereabouts we do not possess. Mr. Fischer has been declared by court order in 1974 to be dead " His wartime report shows that Edmund Fischer was flying his FW 190 A-8 W-Nr.171642 Schwarze +10 that day. "Nach der Landung fehlte Leutnant Fischer. Einzelheiten wurden nicht bekannt" "After landing lacked Lieutenant Fischer. Details were not disclosed" I do have the four books on JG.26 by Caldwell, I did a lot of research for his two volumes "The JG.26 War Diary". Further on Josef Priller's "JG.26 Geschichte eines Jagdgeschwaders", Willi Heilmann "Alert in the West", Gunther Bloemertz "Heaven Next Stop", Heinz Gomann "Und über uns der Himmel" .....and for the rest all possible books that do have JG.26 information in them. It is not that easy to know who was shot down and by whom. - 18.8.1944. 356 FG lost one P-47, flown by Lt. John R. Tillmann, who was KIA. 8128, 42-75549, 356th, 361st, 18/08/44, 2nd Lt. John R. As 12 P.38s were claimed in the same area, around the same time, it is impossible to pinpoint an aircraft. - 25.9.1944. Two Mustangs of 129 Sq. went down in the Arnhem area, one of them must be Fischer's claim. Mustang Mk III, FB147 DV-, 129 Sq. Brenzett Kent, 8 kms W. of Arnhem, KIA F/Lt Philip Norman Howard, 126785, RAF (VR) (Of Brazil), grave 24.A.15 Reichswald Forest War Cemetery Kleve. Too many Spitfires went down that day in that area, the Squadron that did lose a Spitfire(s) were, 1, 64, 132, 317, 412, 421, 443, 453. - 12.10.1944. These three USAAF 385 Fighter Squadron did make a victory claim on 12.10.1944, one of them could be the pilot who did shot down Eduard Fischer : CROMBIE WILLIAM S JR Captain 385FS 10-12-1944 - - European 1 victory. JAMISON GILBERT L 1st Lt 385FS 10-12-1944 - - European 1 victory. JONES ALMA R 1st Lt 385FS 10-12-1944 - - European 3 victories. Best regards Eric-Jan

    11. Edmund Fischer is a long time service member of my collection. He served only 5 months as an active fighterpilot with JG.26. Luftsiege : II./JG.26 - 6.Staffel. 18.08.44 Thunderbolt : Beauvais - Frankreich. 12:40. 25.08.44 Lightning : Beauvais - Frankreich. 13:40. 25.09.44 Mustang : Raume Arnheim/Eindhoven - Niederlande 18:00. 27.09.44 Spitfire : Raume Arnheim/Eindhoven - Niederlande 10:35. Page 21 shows : Seit 12.10.1944 im Raume Osnabruck - Hannover vermißt. Around 11.00 AM Fischer was shot down by a 364 FG - P-51 Mustang and since then MIA. Some nice signatures in his Soldbuch : Glunz and Eder. Rank for Glunz, Caldwell shows in his book the rank Oblt. Glunz, but officially he was still Lt. His promotion request was dated 23.9.1944, the answer was typed on 19.10.1944 and the approval in that letter was signed and dated 20.10.1994, and the rank Oberleutnant was back dated to 1.10.1944.
