    1. Oh sorry , did not see the post of Pierce... Matt , you need two things for solving these riddles...... some good books and a hot running brain First.....check the ribbon , this ribbon was indeed the ribbon for some kind of fire medal , as I said for the big fire in the city from 1842 - BUT - this cannot match your 1915+ ribbon bar. Now , check the other possible medals for this ribbon - there is only one - the 1918+ livesaving medal.... now comes the brain.... IF both ribbon bars belong to one person you can clearly see what he has got first (on the 3place bar) : his regular military service around 1897 to get the Centenar medal and his war service during ww1 to get EK2 and Hamburg hanseatic cross. That makes it shure that the two additional ribbons came later.... the ribbon for the prussian live saving medal is clear but it was not on the wartime bar so it MUST BE a award from prussia freestate 1920s to 1930s and that closes the circle to the 1920s-1930s livesaving medal from Hamburg - he must have got both livesaving medals for the same thing and it must have been a bit spectacular because 2 "states" decorated him for that.... These are my thoughts on that..........coming back to the books you asked , in this case I only used the Nimmergut OEK and the matching Bänderkatalog (the ribbons catalogue). cheers Heiko
    2. Hi Matt, first of all.... it is not the ribbon for a Hamburg fire service medal on your bar - the only Hamburg fire medal with that ribbon is for the big fire in the city in the year 1842 - impossible for your bar of course But now the good news.....if both bars belong to one person the 3place bar is from during ww1 and the 5 place bar is from ca. 1925-1933 What you have there is the very rare ribbon bar of a supernatural Hamburg livesaver !!! Because it is the ribbon of the Hamburg livesaving medal 1918-33 in combination with the livesaving medal of prussia freestate (awarded since 1925) - in this combination very rare and never seen on a ribbon bar before (by me....) good find cheers Heiko
    3. Jup....this is a pure ww1 combattant medal bar with a ribbon bar 1915+ and a buttonhole miniature 1934+ NO WAY THAT THIS IS FROM A 1852 BORN OBERAMTSRAT or something like that... sorry !!! :shame:
    4. What is really interesting about that bar is that the man must have got FIRST a MVK2X with crown on the so called "Beamtenband" , the ribbon for Heimatverdienst , and later a MVO4X on the regular combattant ribbon.... very interesting !!!
    5. I only found a picture from Joedicke as very old man from his death notice in the newspaper 1996 - I really can`t tell if it is the man from your picture ulsterman or not...... BUT what I can tell you is that we sing a little song together now.... "It`s a small world...... " :D
    6. Hello all , got this photo and need some confirmation of the name written on the back : ARTHUR BENSIEG medal bar is clear , EK1 + FA1 at the breast , neck order seems to be Bulgaria (typical crown) - maybe someone knows him or can check in a HOHX list.... uniform looks like a flyer unit to me. Any help is welcome... Heiko
    7. Hi Morten, cool photos with the background in green and white - but I must say.... without clothes he is even more sexy cheers Heiko
    8. and the second one is unfortunately still without name , just the date 1902 on the reverse and the photographers stamp from Limbach in Sachsen.... can someone tell me please what exactly medal N°1 on the bar is ?
    9. Went through the hidden archives of Mordor and found two more of this branch.... First one is Carl August Berthold Hermann STURHAHN from Lippe who got (very interesting!) the Housorder 4.class Abt.B (civil honour cross) of Lippe-Detmold in 1913 as a volunteer red cross member during the Balkan war !!!
    10. OK then.... one from me , the "superspecialraregoldplatinversion" of pictures like this - with a battle clasp for the red cross medal !!! Should be the one for Southwestafrica.... the only one in that portrait quality I had for all times....
    11. Serious theme or not........... exactly this is it what seperates gmic from a lot of other forums - the humor and brain power of its members , very up-level humor.... If there is no space and time for some things like that , collecting life will be banned behind the gate of Mordor in darkness.... and now back to Mr.Model and the real life.... :P
    12. Hello all, what Regiment had these shoulderboards... I can see a 120 written in two colours , the photographer is from Stuttgart so it should be a Württemberg Regiment , but the IR 120 had a W and a crown..... is this LIR 120 or RIR 120 ??? Any info is welcome...
    13. hmmmmmm.... why do I remember that picture... ? As far as I know the bavarian Ludwigscross was given to people of the bavarian army who could not expect to get any bavarian bravery award ever.... of course history and known pictures tell us that sometimes a LC owner got a MVK later because he came in another unit , position or whatever... so this is MAYBE a home service iron cross and MAYBE NOT - for exactly 50% I would say...
