    1. Nice items Laurence... The funny thing is that there was once a time when GrossDeutchland cuff titles were as inexpensive as these Grenztruppen titles are today! Paul
    2. Nice!! Those look great on the field uniform! Keep em coming!!
    3. Nothing wrong with redundancy... it rules out errors! Regards "The edit King"
    4. That is mostly correct. Here are the East German waffenfarbe colors for the military: Red/ Arty Green/ All Border Guard Dark Green/ Rear Services(medical, supply, etc) Yellow/ Signals White/ Infantry Black/ Pioneer Pink/ Panzer Olive/ Bausoldat(consiencous objectors... manuel labor) Orange/ Fallschirmjager(under the control of the Army) Grey/ Air Defence(under the Air Force) Lt Blue/ All Air Force Purple/ Civil Defence Dark Blue(NAVY BLUE)/Naval Forces Maroon/wine red/ Stassi(secret police) Of course the police had their own colors for each branch. Laurence... I did not mean to break up your thread... Paul
    5. Are there any photos or proof of even post war wear of this award? Has anyone ever seen a gold version on a legitimate 57 bar or tunic? Shooting down five aircraft... can you image the skill or luck? That would make the awardee an ace... technically! Paul
    6. So you get paid to collect and research medals and orders?!?!? Some people have it all!!! Paul
    7. I would be very excited to be in your spot to do this research! How often do you go to India?
    8. Very nice! I would be very interested in seeing more scans when you get time! I love the Bausoldat boards! Paul
    9. Does anyone else have any of these triple decal reissue helmets to show? Paul
    10. Ed, Thank you for this informative thread. I knew that the Indians had a German backed military, even having many in German uniform but I did not know that they had their own awards system. Do you know how many men were in this organization? Paul
    11. That is an amazing set of documentation!!! The citation adds a lot of "reality" to what the medal represents.
    12. This is now my favorite ribbon bar! I bet that this is a one of a kind combination! I can only imagine what this gentleman went through. This bar speaks a lot! Paul
    13. Thank you for your compliment Lawerance. Please post them in the Post War section. I would love to see them!
    14. I look forward to seeing your collection of goodies! Thank you Glenn! The numbered set with the "607" are piped with the same waffenfarbe. Was the wearer in the Special Troop Service as well?
    15. Those are beautiful awards. Did all of the Germanic kingdoms have their own? Paul
    16. Rick, You are right... it is magnetic! You are right... this bar does have a bit or irony to it. That is one of the reasons I like it so much. Have you ever seen a widow's HC on a bar before? I am attempting to get a scan of the maker mark on the rim of the Silver LS medal... Those are some beautiful bars Rick!!! I can only dream!! Paul
    17. Rick, Thank you for the information. I was getting ready to break out the reference books upstairs. I had forgotten that I had these boards. Kevin, Thank you for your kind words. I will keep you in mind when I go to sell these things off(which might not be that far away). I started collecting East German items about 4-5 years ago. Before I started with WW2 German. I would love to see what you have sometime. Start a thread!! Paul
    18. I would love to find a bar with a first class ribbon! I have not seen one of those in person before! I have just made a discovery on the bakelite bar. It seems too heavy to be made of that material. Using a magnet, I have determined that the underlying material is of steel or iron. Someone cut a solid piece of a metal bar and wrapped the ribbons around it to make the bar. Has anyone ever seen such a construction method? The face of the ribbon bar is flat, unlike the slightly convex ribbon bars normally seen. Paul
    19. I have never seen those boards until Lawence posted them. They must be pretty rare indeed! BTW, that General's Board is a real beauty!!
